5.0 out of 5 stars A Complete Summary of the Incident
If you do a Google search on Varginha you find something like 160,000 entries. Some of these are merely reporting on the city of this name in Brazil. Most of them however relate to the story of a crashed UFO. The report is that in April, 1997 a UFO crashed in the town.

This book consists of research conducted in Varginha by the author. He personally...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Complete Summary of the Incident, July 14, 2005
This review is from: UFO Crash in Brazil (Paperback)
If you do a Google search on Varginha you find something like 160,000 entries. Some of these are merely reporting on the city of this name in Brazil. Most of them however relate to the story of a crashed UFO. The report is that in April, 1997 a UFO crashed in the town.

This book consists of research conducted in Varginha by the author. He personally interviewed most of the known witnesses and presents this book as a summary of everything that is known about the incident.

As with the situation in Roswell, the incident occurred, and the military responded. The aliens that were captured were taken away by the military and have not been seen since. Nor is there any physical evidence in the hands of people outside the military that would definitely point to an extraterrestrial origin. ==Unfortunately we are left with a matter of faith. Those who believe in UFO's will remain convinced, those who do not will merely look at like any other story.

Dr. Leir is a podiatrist who has published other books in the general area of UFOlogy.

The author is presented as a top flight scientific investigator, however, he does not conduct a scientific investigation. The book begins like a Chamber of Commerce pamphlet on rural Brazil. Finally we get to the "crash" investigation in earnest, but all the author does is run around Brazil listening to 2nd or 3rd hand stories from a local investigator. He manages to visit a few sights, but they present no valuable information so long after the "events"sited in the text took place. He wastes so much time in fact, he finds that he has none left to actually seek out any first hand witnesses for an interview. His field research time has run out. He must return home after leading this reader on an unsatisfactory safari. This is a case unproven.

1.0 out of 5 stars I'm still lost..., August 30, 2005
This review is from: UFO Crash in Brazil (Paperback)
Wanted more. Author didn't deliver. Second hand info and overt speculation are really all this book has to offer. Author holds himself in such a high regard that I thought the book was more about him and his visit to Brazil than any true crash investigation. Pass on this one. Not worth the time.

I just read this book for the second time. It is an quick account told by a UFO researcher, many years after the fact, who returns to the "scene of the crime" for a limited time to try to put all the pieces together with the help of an interpreter. The actual account by eye witnesses is very intriguing but the interviews conducted by the researcher leave much to be desired. He doesn't dig deep enough as if he is concerned about infringing on the witness's fragile sensibilities. The interviews are not very detailed and sometimes omit obvious points of interest. For instance, the anatomy of an apparently captured alien is discussed but does not include a description of the genitalia (as if that's too sensitive for a reader to grapple with) but is one which should greatly interest any reader. Too many words are spent describing petty details (like what they ate for breakfast). The story is laced with the usual cover-up attempts, denials and scrambling of the facts by anti-UFO factions whoever they may be. However, due to the corroboration of evidence among witnesses it does suggest the unlikeliness that the story is some far-fetched concoction. It is well worth reading, even if only to inform ones self about an encounter which took place on another continent. Unfortunately it ends like many a frustrating UFO related encounter: big on claim and experience but small on concrete, undeniable evidence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Remarkable Book About a Remarkable UFO Case!!, March 11, 2008

This review is from: UFO Crash in Brazil (Paperback)
This is an incredible book, and I have absolutely no hesitation about giving it a five-star review! Dr. Leir obviously did a very thorough investigation into this particular incident in Brazil, and in scientific and legal fashion he presents a discussion review at the end of each chapter in an effort to weigh all the evidence. This is truly an enjoyable book to read, both because of a sense of the author having such high credibility, and also his warm and vivid depictions of his experiences in Brazil-which at times made me feel I was actually there. A chapter written by noted UFO researcher Stan Friedman, comparing and contrasting this case with the Roswell case, is also included. Personally, I am absolutely convinced that there are and have been, many extraterrestrial visitors to this planet, and I agree with Dr. Leir that the Varginha, Brazil case is no hoax.

The Varginha case is one of the most interesting cases of this sort. The volume of witness testimony makes a strong case for authenticity of the overall story. Dr. Lier's book is the only English version of this story, and as such is worth reading to get an accurate picture of what happened. Suffice to say we are not laone in the universe. That much seems quite clear now.

4.0 out of 5 stars UFO IN BRAZIL, June 11, 2007

This review is from: UFO Crash in Brazil (Paperback)
UFO CRASH IN BRAZIL by Roger K. Leir is a book worth reading for anyone who has a interest in the subject of UFO's. The on-going investigation by Dr. Leir is somewhat of a travel-log mixed with interviews of alleged witnesses, and his own conclusions based on what he saw and felt when dealing with many of these people. I felt that Dr. Leir was too trusting at times, and took many statements he received as "the truth and nothing but the truth."

However, from the book and updated information, it appears that "something did in fact occur in Brazil." The Brazilian government seems to have gone to great lengths to "hide" or, "white-wash" the entire incident.

Dr. Leir made it quite clear that the conflicting information he received by various doctors and government officials only served to strengthen his conviction that a UFO crashed in a small town in Brazil, and the waves from that incident have not yet subsided!

5.0 out of 5 stars Aliens in Varginha..., May 26, 2005
By
This review is from: UFO Crash in Brazil (Paperback)
Though I've not read the book I have heard the author discussing the incident detailed about a UFO crashing in Varginha, Brazil. The incident beings on January 19, 1996 with a damaged UFO heading towards Varginha, followed by several eye witness accounts of strange beings in the area. They all describe small 4 to 5 foot creatures, with oily brown skin, 3 protrusions on their heads, and large red eyes... Witnesses include ordinary citizens, school aged children, doctors and military personnel.

The story detailed in this book, along with a recent announcement by the Brazilian government that they would open their UFO files to the general public, may lead to absolute proof of an alien presence visiting our planet...

Anybody who enjoys reading about UFO incidents such as Roswell, Kecksburg, or Rendlesham should get a whole lot of enjoyment out of this book.
