Head and shoulders above most UFO books.,

Continuing with the fact-laden approach taken in both 'The UFO Evidence', Vol.1 and the 1988 book 'Uninvited Guests', Mr.Hall had provided the UFO researcher with a wealth of information. As other reviewers point out, Mr. Hall embraces the ETH (Extraterrestrial Hypothesis) as the most likely sources of (at least some) UFO sightings, while acknowledging the possible merits of alternative views (extra-dimensional, parallel universes, etc.). The structure of the book allows researchers quick access to specific aspects of the phenomena, breaking reports down by type of witness (military, pilot, police witnesses), waves and concentrations, motions and flight patterns, historical developments and lots more. Although somewhat pricey, this massive work will be used for years to come by researchers and serious students of the UFO enigma. As another reviewer noted, books like this are typically limited in run; a much better investment (and it is an investment)than a stack of the typical sensationalized UFO books one generally finds. This is as close to empiricism as is likely to be found in this arcane field. Highly recommended.

One of the best reviews of the UFO phenomenon,

This review is from: The UFO Evidence - Volume 2 : A Thirty Year Report (Hardcover)
"The UFO Evidence - Volume II - a thirty-year report" by Richard Hall, is without doubt one of the best reviews of the UFO phenomenon, in the last decade - "a natural history of UFOs" - a worthy successor to the first classic volume from 1964. Every researcher, skeptic and people interested in the UFO subject would get something out of this remarkable book. It presents a persuasive case for the physical reality of the UFO phenomenon. Richard Hall describes significant patterns and characteristics of the UFO phenomenon in a comprehensive study that brings together decades of detailed research and study of the subject. If you really want to know the real facts of the UFO subject this would be one of your best starting points. If you think you know it all, this book will provide you with a firm foundation in facts and will perhaps get you thinking about how well you really understand the facts about this controversial subject. My endorsement comes from the background of decades of research. My own book "The OZ Files - the Australian UFO Story" was published in 1996. I have had a tremendous amount of respect and confidence in Richard Hall's work in this field. "The UFO Evidence, Volume II A Thirty year report" certainly shows why.

It's only March, but this will surely be the UFO book of the year. Not only is it by one of the most respected names in ufology, but it's just what the title says: EVIDENCE -- more than 650 pages of evidence, compiled over the past 35 years and assembled here in a very easy-to-digest format. Hall compiled the first volume of UFO Evidence for the respected National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP) in 1964. The first volume is widely regarded as one of the most useful resources in ufology, and this volume is far superior. It's literally packed with case summaries, drawings, photographs tables and analyses (including 70 pages on the abduction phenomenon). Fifty dollars is a lot of money, but this is easily worth twice the price of any other UFO book that I've purchased over the past few years. The beauty of Hall's approach is that the reader is literally overwhelmed with FACTS, not hypnotically-retrieved recollections or wild-eyed speculations. Hall was associated with the founder of NICAP, Maj. Donald Keyhoe, and is as far from the UFO "lunatic fringe" as you can get. He has been a proponent of the Extraterrestrial Hypothesis, which is supported by a fair percentage of the evidence (indeed, a large percentage of the evidence if you're willing to be flexible as to what "extraterrestrial" may mean), but he doesn't seem to be dogmatic about it. Although this book is clearly his, it includes contributions by others who are equally respected and equally far removed from the lunatic fringe (such as Richard Haines and Eddie Bullard). This volume and the first (which was reprinted in the mid-1990's) are sufficient in themselves to establish a compelling case for UFOs as an intelligently guided, genuinely anomalous phenomenon (or perhaps several such phenomena). I have to believe that this book will be money well spent for anyone who wants to see what a serious piece of work looks like in comparison to the dozens of largely worthless UFO titles published every year by authors without a tenth of Hall's experience or depth of knowledge. Lastly, bear in mind that serious UFO titles such as this typically have limited press runs and tend to be worth considerably more than you paid for them in a few years.

This review is from: The UFO Evidence - Volume 2 : A Thirty Year Report (Hardcover)
Having been involved in serious studies of so-called ufo phenomena for many years, I have had to locate and read credible literature. Indeed, this is not an easy task these days. Among the types of literature that are most valuable are topical summaries or reviews in which a broad and diverse body of knowledge is systematically presented. Richard Hall truly has done this in his epoch The UFO Evidence II. All of us owe him a debt of gratitude both for his long-standing involvement in the study of these strange phenomena that are seen in the air, on the surface of the Earth, and even underwater but also for collating such an impressive amount of interesting information in this particular book. The open minded reader will find much to ponder here. I highly recommend it.

The 701 unknown cases from the Air Force's Project Blue Book don't seem to matter to science... just like the reports in this book, which fall on deaf ears. Why is that? This is a well organzied, technical book packed with TONS of useful information. Hopefully future generations of scientists can make sense of all the data. I'm sure this would be one of the best places to look in search for answers regarding UFOs.

The best book about UFO-sightings until now.,

This review is from: The UFO Evidence - Volume 2 : A Thirty Year Report (Hardcover)
This is probably the best book about ufo-sightings, by the, now late, author Richard H. Hall. It is wonderfully free of conspiration theories and religion and all that balderdash, which so often is seen in connection with this subject. The topic is primarily ufo-sightings, and to a lesser extent abduction reports, which is to be found in the book "Uninvited guests" by the same author. It is welcome, that there, by this book, now is an update of events from the recent years - one gets a little tired of reading about Kenneth Arnold time nr. 1000. The book contains a historical rewiew and comment (the Condon report). The material about abductions is rather brief reports - in which there probably is material for several other books. Illustrations is primarily drawings, which actually are quite good - and there are som photographs - but today (november 2010) it would be natural to include many of the remarkable photos from the internet. We live in another time today - the solution to the question: where to go? - is today answered by: the internet. It will be exiting to see who will take the baton after Richard H. Hall.

Having read the first book, had to get this one from Amazon. I'm interested in facts, first-hand accounts, and evidence; not speculation or theories. If you're doing serious research on the subject, this is a must-read. Expensive and worth it.

I'm still reading this book, have been for months and it will take many more to finish.
For anyone serious about the phenomena, "The UFO Evidence Volume 1" and (This one) Volume 2, are essential to research. Unlike the plethora of books on the subject, these two volumes are devoid of speculation or opinion. These are just the cases, predominately recorded from eyewitness reports of military personal, pilots, radar operators and police. The most astonishing examples are the ones that involve multiple witness reports over a period of time and over a span of geographic distance. If there is a down side to these volumes, it's that they are very "Dry" reading, "Just the facts". Which for me is not a detractor, but I know that all this raw data would put many people to sleep. I can't wait for volume 3!

Secondary Sources Limit the Value of this Research,

This review is from: The UFO Evidence - Volume 2 : A Thirty Year Report (Hardcover)
On the surface, UFO Evidence V II. is an extremely facinating read that will leave you amazed and puzzled: what are we to make of all this 'evidence'? And while it is indeed thorough in coverage and apparently much more objective than most UFO studies, it's not saying much. The reason is that the so-called 'evidence' is of little value when not subjected to scientific scrutiny; coming from secondary sources of dubious worth, we are asked to accept it at face value. To exmplify, using an oft-repated expression favored by Charles Fort when citing so called 'data' of uncertain provenance and specificity from his own favorite sources of 'scientific data' such as newspapers and enthusiat magazines: "For All I Know, the pilot who said he saw this Flying Suacer was drunk to the gills that day!" No wonder scientists can't take the phenomenon seriously. When I bought this book, having heared of NICAP's reputation, I was expecting primary evidence gathered in a manner similiar to that for Project Blue Book, using rigorous standards of data collection by objective inquierers. Instead I got a rehash of stories from 30 years worth of "Foo-ology" Books.
