5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
Are you nuts! Vinnie Moore is awesome on this CD (DVD). Some of the best live playing ever! You can't replace Michael Schenker but Vinnie Moore does a great job. Jason Bonham is solid and the band is tight! Video and sound on the DVD is very well done. If your a UFO fan this is a must! Again, you'll never replace a Michael Schenker in UFO, but this is as good as it get's...

I wish I could have seen the DVD that I ordered but it was defective I returned it and Amazon said it will refund my money--but Amazon made it seem like I failed to request another copy when I did. I understand that "wires" get crossed when buying over the internet but I felt that Amazon made me feel like it was my fault that the DVD by UFO---which is outstanding by the...

I saw UFO blow Van Halen & Aerosmith away at a Festival in Los Angeles in the late 70's, have bought and enjoyed their work over the years, then caught them again last year on the "You are Here" Tour. This DVD clearly shows how the bands sound and song catalog has blown away rock fans for three decades. You know this is a very talented group (or you wouldn't be reading this!), but the surprise is how well this DVD captures UFO. I only have about ten Rock DVD's, but this is easily the best planned and produced among the group.

I bought this for the show and Disc 1 delivers a strong effort. Phil has the best voice in rock, Vinnie adds to the UFO sound within his distinct style and the rhythm section is rock solid. With so much to choose from, we all could debate the song list. I'm glad they included five new tunes. I probably would have traded 1-2 classics for perhaps something more obscure from the 80's/90's. Hey, I love Only you can Rock Me as much as you, but I've been listening to it for almost 30 years.

Shooting the show in a club was a good choice since UFO is more about the music than the show, but they could have picked a club that had a least a little more room for the band and a stage with a little visual appeal. It's not far removed from someone building a stage in a warehouse. In all of Europe, there must be a club with better camera sightlines and that comes across better on camera. Not a big deal, but this is a DVD and you can't help notice that the backdrop ain't helpin' the cause much.

Disc 2 is an outstanding effort, with two distinct parts. The six in studio songs are well selected and gives us a chance to watch the guys at work, ESPECIALLY Vinnie. Love to Love and Try Me are supported by strings ... in fact, this is probably the best version of Love to Love I've heard. These six songs leaving you wish there were more ... it's that good.

I really enjoyed the interviews and mini-documentary features. I've followed UFO for a long time, but didn't know much about them. Obviously these guys have been down a long road and hearing them discuss London in the earlier days, Schenker and their recent work is interesting. About 95% of it was new to me ! Even better, they come across as guys you would really like to sit and tip a few beers with.

All these interviews made me think that with the dozens of UFO compliations available, how about a comprehensive boxed set ? Probably will never happen, but Phil, Paul & Pete obviously have a good sense of the bands history and strenghes. Getting a step beyond the same repackaged hits would be an interesting project.

I am really glad that somebody associated with UFO had the passion and intellegence to put out such a complete, well rounded production. They understand the bands place in producing great rock and roll for thirty years. They love UFO as much as we do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb!, December 3, 2005

This review is from: UFO: Showtime (DVD)
I've been a UFO fan since the 70s, and this DVD is just a fantastic representation of the band's music.

Disc 1: Live in a medium sized venue, great lighting, video, and audio quality. The 5.1 digital audio is exceptional. I have noticed that some concert videos in 5.1 do not do justice to the concert sound, but this one has a premium mix. Performances by all band members are flawless, with the non-original members, Bonham and Moore, covering the original parts perfectly while adding their own unique touches. Mogg, Way, and Raymond are, as usual, in perfect form.

Disc 2: Live in the studio. Just what you would hope for with this sort of setting. All players in casual studio setting with a super clear video and exceptional audio quality. Small string section sits in on a couple of the cuts, very cool...

If you like UFO, you will love this DVD. Highly Recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent DVD, July 4, 2006

I agree with others that this DVD was long overdue. I'm collecting all the UFO concert footage I can find, and there's not much out there. It's great to see UFO still rocking.

Vinnie Moore's performance was amazing and the most surprising part of the set. It's obvious he was having a hell of a good time with the music and it showed.

Mogg's voice has aged, but still sounds great. He early starts on a song or two, and changes some of the lyrics around - but I'll cut him some slack cause it's an impressive performance otherwise.

While the concert on disk one is great, the studio recordings on disk two is the real gem. I'd love to see some more of these studio videos. Again, Vinnie really shines here.

I highly recommend this as the best UFO on DVD, and hope that I can someday watch "Stranger in the Night" footage done in the same quality.

4.0 out of 5 stars The phenomenon continues..., January 10, 2006

I tend to agree with the previous reviewer, that it would be nice to see/hear some Chapman-era stuff performed instead of the same ole SITN set list. The DVD at 200 minutes is great value. The in-studio set is SUPERB, hearing some ole chestnuts, like Pack It Up and Go and Try Me and of course some additional banter from the boys, although Vinnie seems unprepared. I actually think Vinnie is a good sub for Schenker. The live set is decent but there's too many close-ups and too many cut-away shots, so you feel a bit dizzy by the end (or maybe it was just the cough medicine?), so that's why only 4/5 stars. And no Natural Thing? Unforgivable!

The 1st concert cd is ok but the second disc with interviews and studio (live) songs has some get cuts like Try Me and Profession of Violence and all done with strings. Just a wonderful job all around.

i saw ufo back in the late 70's with michael schenker on lead guitar. lucky me. to me they were and still are the definition of sweet hard rock n roll. this dvd features vinnie moore on lead guitar and jason bonham on drums. original members phil mogg, pete way and paul raymond are as tight as ever. the 2nd disc of live studio recordings is awesome. the interviews are cool too. if you like ufo, you'll love this. rock on/bush hog

A UFO DVD was overdue. I wish that there were some footage of Michael Schenker and Andy Parker, but Vinnie Moore and Jason Bonham do a great job at playing true to the original. What is lacking in this DVD is more than made up for in the second DVD of UFO in the studio recording with a string section. This is what really sets UFO apart from other similar bands starting out in the mid 70's. Any true UFO fans will love this set.

5.0 out of 5 stars UFO still rocks!, December 7, 2005
This review is from: UFO: Showtime (DVD)
UFO IS ONE OF THE GREATEST ROCK BANDS OF ALL TIME AND THIS

DVD PROVES THEY ARE STILL A FORCE. THE LASTEST ALBUM YOU ARE

HERE IS A KILLER AND THE BEST ROCK ALBUM OF LAST YEAR! THIS

DVD IS FROM THAT TOUR AND IS JUST AWESOME. THE SONGS CONSIST

OF CLASSICS AND VERY WELL DONE WITH VINNIE MOORE AND JASON

BONHAM PLAYING WITH THE SPIRIT OF THE ORIGINAL BAND. I THINK

NO PLACE TO RUN OR A SONG FROM THE 80'S WOULD'VE BEEN NICE BUT

NO COMPLAINTS. DISC TWO IS AWESOME WITH THE BAND PLAYING LIVE

IN THE STUDIO. SONGS LIKE PACK IT UP AND GO, TRY ME AND THE

GREAT PROFESSION OF VIOLENCE IS WORTH IT ALONE. SO IF YOU LIKE

UFO IN THE PAST OR NEVER HEARD THEM I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS!

4.0 out of 5 stars WTF? Still no Chapman era songs?, December 30, 2005
This review is from: UFO: Showtime (DVD)
OK, I'm going to buy this. But you have to wonder what is going on here. The excuse used for years was that Schenker refused to play Chapman era songs. Lame as hell, but what are you gonna do? So now they are past that excuse and the set list still reads like Strangers In The Night plus some of the new stuff. I just don't get it. Chapman era stuff was some of the strongest the band ever did. I hate that they refuse to acknowledge it.
