I truly am a late-comer. While searching for a pair of boots here at Amazon.com last year I discovered Ugg boots, which I had never heard of before. With all that shearling they certainly appeared comfortable. But boy were they expensive; at least for me. So I chose what I thought would be the next best thing, Bear Paws.

I have large legs; my feet and ankles tend to swell. I did not consider these problems when I ordered the Bear Paws last year. This year I know better. The Bear Paws has a small circumference and were very difficult to get my feet into. Once I did, the foot bed was ok in the comfort department, but the shaft was too tight around my legs.

This year I finally decided to spring for the Ugg boots. I saw them everywhere; everyone was wearing them, including children. But $200 was still a lot of money for a pair of boots. Thankfully my daughter volunteered to buy them for me as a Christmas gift.

I discovered the Women's Australia Ultimate Tall Braid on another site for $204.00 and sent her the link. She found the same boots on Amazon.com (through Overland.com) for $139.00 with free shipping and handling! Amazingly she ordered the boots on Monday and I received them on Wednesday, the day before Christmas!!! As a special gift, Overland.com upgraded the shipping to overnight delivery, free. Amazing comp+any.

I wear an 8 but for the reasons stated above, I ordered a 9. When I tried the boots on the first thing I noticed was the softness of the sheepskin. The Bear Paws sheepskin is hard. The fur in the Uggs is plush and soft. My feet and ankles were a little swollen and at first I thought I would have a problem getting my new boots on. It only took a little manuvering and my foot was surrounded by absolute luxury. The suede of these boots is so soft, the nap changes color when you run your hands across it.

With swollen feet, I still have plenty of room and considered sending them back. I agree, these boots are true to size. However, I like the extra room I have around my ankles and my feet as a whole. So I think I will keep them. Also, with a 17" circumference, they are comfortable around my legs. I am not quite 5'5 and the boots, with the top rolled down about an 1", come to about mid-calf. They are a little tight pulled all the way up.

These boots are not to be worn in snow or on slippery surfaces. It snowed several days before I wore the boots. Although most of the snow was gone, there remained small ice sheets here and there. I stepped on an ice sheet and almost slipped.

Another important fact: the Tall Braid boots come in Ultra and Ultimate. The Ultra has a 15" circumference and the Ultimate has a 17" circumference. I have seen the Ultra referred to as the Ultimate on some sites. For those of us with large calves, 2" can make big a difference.

The braiding down the back gives these boots a true classic style missing in other Ugg boots. I highly recommend Ugg's Women's Ultimate Tall Braid for cold weather and especially for women with large legs!

Re: Overland - When my daughter told me about Overland, I went directly to their site and had a chat with them. Since my Bear Paws experience, I wanted more specifics about the sizing of this boot. After the chat, someone from the company sent me an email detailing their return policy:

1. I had up to a year to return the product.

2. A return label is shipped with the product for easy return.

3. Free S&H on exchanges

I also recommend purchasing from Overland.com.

I purchased the Women's Ultimate Tall Braid UGG Boots in Chestnut.

These boots are so warm & comfortable that I only need light trouser socks on when walking 2-3 miles in below freezing temperatures. And I can step into snow up to my knees without getting snow inside the boots. I absolutely love them. If you don't want the cold & snow to stop you from getting exercise, buy these boots!!

Great comfy boot. I originally ordered a 7, thinking Uggs are usually 1 size bigger, but I had to send them back and get my actual size because these were true to size. Overall, they are just what I expected and I am very pleased with them. One note, don't wear without socks because they dye your toes, even my white socks are black now.

I love that (unlike the traditional Uggs) these boots have a more hardcore boot bottom. I've been wearing them around in the snow and rain and they're super warm. Just make sure you weather-proof the fabric.

I absolutely love these boots!! They are the most comfortable footwear I have ever worn. I choose the ultimate boots over regular Uggs because I like the thick rubber soles on the bottom. After having them I definetely like the soles they are good in the snow and I think they make the boots look better than the other type. I also love the ribbon up the back of the ultimate boots. Great product!!

Bought my wife these boots for christmas and she doesn't ever want to take them off! She say's they are comfortable and warm!! She loves the fact that they fit a wider calf and she can wear them up or turned down for a different look. Super cold here in Germany but even with no socks her feet are toasty warm! I ordered the size smaller for her due to the reviews and they fit her perfect. She wore them the entire day she received them and since she didn't want to wear "shoes" in the house she has since ordered the croquette slipper. She's hooked for life!! Well worth the cost...they are a great investment.

I purchased these for another winter in Colorado. I've owned the Classic- ankle, short and tall and a pair of short ultras. These do run true to size. In the classics and ultra I found them too big and ordered a size down. I found when I get the right size the others were loose, especially around my small calves. Naturally I ordered these a size down thinking the same would apply to ultimates. The braid on the back is adorable and it is comfy but my wide feet cannot handle these. I would probably give these a 5 if I had gotten the right size. But for now I've settled for some waterproof Timberlands.

I love the Ugg boots and knew that I would...but I was the most impressed with the Overland Sheepskin Company.

I got a great price, free shipping and the boots came in 2 days. I would definitely do business with them again. In the meantime, my feet are warm and cozy!
