2008 Ugly's review,

This review is from: UGLY's Electrical References, 2008 Edition (Spiral-bound)
It has a lot of useful stuff it in and I prefer it over the Dr. Watts book because of the extra detail in in. The Dr Watts book is nice though because the pages are laminated but if they laminated this book it would be 3 inches thick. I am an electrician and would have to say that this book might be too complicated for some do it yourselfer electricians and I would probably recommend the Dr. Watts book. Otherwise, if your looking for a good detailed resource, this is it.

This is one Ugly book!
Sorry, I couldn't help myself. This is actually a good reference book if you want some very well written references for electrical basics. Ohm's, volts, etc... it's all in there. Symbols, terminology and examples are well laid out in laymans terminology and easy to understand. It doesn't get too wrapped up in complex math, and the math that is given is very easy to understand because it is spelled out and all variables are clearly identified. Kudos to the auhor for a very comprehensive primer.

I got my first Ugly's book in 1987 and have been buying them for my Journeymen for the past 10 years. Small enough to keep in the glove box or tool bag. Just a great reference guide for anyone in the electrical trade.

I am a master electrician and have been involved in the electrical and engineering fields for 40 years. I also teach electrical and maintenance classes. This book, regardless of the year published, is my preferred text book and reference for all maintenance and electrical classes. It gives you a vast amount of info that is readily applicable to the people that actually do the work. A theoretician my not appreciate it, but when the "rubber meets the road", I heartily reccomend that every journeyman electrician or maintenance man have one in their tool box.

If electricity is your field, this book can recharge your batteries (pun intended). The formulas and the facts are sure to keep your mind sharp. Easy to read, but a lot to digest, even if you have gone through electrical schooling and/or work in the field. I like to flip through the pages and try to test my thinking ability with the diagrams. I test out the circuits with my knowledge. and then try to duplicate the books way of solving it. Lots of information and challenges make this a great addition to field electrician and lab tech. alike. Concise and made for tool bag or even your pocket. Buy one and enjoy!

This is not a handy pocket ref. It's a little large for that, but the info inside is just what you need when your out in the field and need to remember a formula that you don't use often. Full of handy ref. tables too.

I think the book is a good source of information. I think it would be a great book if it included some wiring schematics showing the color code of single phase and three phase distribution with a good working explanation of sizing neutral wires and sharing neutral wires.

I've used UGLY's for years, had to get a new one for my new job. This book has everything an electrician would need to know on the job and then some. Short of having to wire up a nuclear sub, UGLY's will get you through the task.
