I recently graduated out of infantry basic training. The author claims that this book is ageless no matter what happens in the Army. I disagree. The kind of training you get these days from the Army and the military in general is directed towards warfare that the author did not get the initial training for. Second, if you're heading for infantry forget it! All this book...

This review is from: ULTIMATE INTERACTIVE BASIC TRAINING WORKBOOK, THE: What You Must Know to Survive and Thrive in Boot Camp (Paperback)
I bought this book directly from the author after reading his
Guidebook to help me prepare for boot camp. It was definitely worth
it. There's lots of real helpful info in both books, and the Workbook
had a lot of extra content, like the multiple choice questions and
things on the author's website. (There are icons in the book so you
know when to jump on to the author's website for extra info, video
clips, photos, etc.). There is a small problem with some of the
flashcards in the book. The words don't match up correctly on the
front and back when cut out. An obvious printing error, and not the
author's fault. I was not going to cut out the phonetic alphabet cards
anyway, so I just used index cards and made my own. If you want to use
the cards in the book, I guess you could just write the answer on
them. No big deal and it does not detract from all the great info
inside this book. Mandatory reading, no exception.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes a great gift for someone going into any branch of the military, December 13, 2007
This review is from: ULTIMATE INTERACTIVE BASIC TRAINING WORKBOOK, THE: What You Must Know to Survive and Thrive in Boot Camp (Paperback)
I gave this book as a gift to a friend who was going into the military and was told it was a very useful gift. It answered a lot of questions and eliminated a lot of anxiety.
If you know of anyone considering, or recently making the commitment, then this book is a strong recommendation. They SHOULD be handing these out in the recruiting offices!

5.0 out of 5 stars ULTIMATE INTERACTIVE BASIC TRAINING WORKBOOK, May 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: ULTIMATE INTERACTIVE BASIC TRAINING WORKBOOK, THE: What You Must Know to Survive and Thrive in Boot Camp (Paperback)
Purchased for my grandson who is in Jr ROTC. He swears it is everything he wanted. Answers to questions he didn't know but most important--a schedule of preparation--one day one do a pull up. You have three days to get to one (HA!) then your goal is another pull up in three additional days, etc. So by the time you finish the workbook, you're running 10-15miles with a heavy pack on your back. Makes Basic SO MUCH easier (I guess. I won't be there) I also critiqued the book and from my perspective it appeared excellent. (I'm a girl--what do I know!) His Mstr Sgt recommended it. Semper Fi!

The kind of training you get these days from the Army and the military in general is directed towards warfare that the author did not get the initial training for. Second, if you're heading for infantry forget it! All this book familiarizes you with is some terms and a few phrases. Gives you a few tips on shooting and that's it. The most obvious part is that the Army, Marines, and recently the Air Force don't shine boots. The Army specifically doesn't wear BDUs anymore and so on. You can find all the information he's talking about online if you google a bit. Save your money, and invest a little time online. You'll get all the answers and advice you want. This guy has not been to basic training in a long time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Save Your Money, December 31, 2010
This review is from: ULTIMATE INTERACTIVE BASIC TRAINING WORKBOOK, THE: What You Must Know to Survive and Thrive in Boot Camp (Paperback)
Save your money! This book is so useless it's laughable. The only tips that were even marginally useful were the ones telling you what not to bring to basic training. I can tell you from experience, that you don't want the Drill Sergeants to know that you have even a hint of military knowledge. Doing so will earn you needless added push-ups. MRE does NOT stand for "Meals, Ready to Eat" it stands for "Meal, Ready to Eat... notice the lack of an "S"? 02:00 is NOT "oh-two hundred", it is "ZERO two hundred". "Oh" is a letter in the alphabet, not a number. Believe me, the Drill Sergeants will teach you everything you need to know to be a successful soldier or marine... and you won't have to spend a dime to learn it! I can go on and on, but I won't waste my time. Trust me, this book is a waste of paper, and a waste of money! And since a previous reviewer was accused of being a competeing author, I will come right out and let you know that I am not an author... just somebody trying to give useful advice. Save your money!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pre-teen & teen boys, January 18, 2008

This review is from: ULTIMATE INTERACTIVE BASIC TRAINING WORKBOOK, THE: What You Must Know to Survive and Thrive in Boot Camp (Paperback)
Given as gift to pre-teen and teen boys, who are eager for adventure, and consider themselves continuously in training. Even after they had sent the obligatory thank-you notes, they spoke of their appreciation, and the fact that they read the entire book and completed the workbook. This was during Christmas school break! Altho, I don't like to promote violence or war as a first response, reality requires the fact that we need men of strong integrity, who are well trained to be prepared to defend our country. I recommend these in place of violent video games.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lies, March 29, 2008
This review is from: ULTIMATE INTERACTIVE BASIC TRAINING WORKBOOK, THE: What You Must Know to Survive and Thrive in Boot Camp (Paperback)
This book has some very useful information in it along with a great workout program. The author seems to be a bit into himself, and seems to push the reader into buying his other books. The book promises downloadable workout logs, but after logging onto the website, and emailing the author, I still have no logs. But other than that it is a very helpful and informative book.
