5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Surround Sound I Recommend These Over HFI 700's & 2200's
These Ultrasone Proline 650 Headphones are terrific & I definately recommend these over the the other 2 Ultrasone Headphones I tried (the HFI 700 & 2200 ULE). I got these on sale at a great price. I originally got the HFI 700's on Ebay that sounded great like hearing from speakers & it really did feel like surround sound when listening to DVD's but they were so physically...

2.0 out of 5 stars disappointed
I had big hopes for these headphones but they are VERY uncomfortable and stiff. I have to wear them for long periods of time and even for a few minutes they were horrible. I have Sony MDR7506's and for the money.. I had much higher expectations. In terms of comfort they are terrible and frankly my sony's had much higher output when set at the same volume level. I'm a...

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Surround Sound I Recommend These Over HFI 700's & 2200's, February 2, 2006
This review is from: ULTRASONE PROline 650 S-Logic Surround Sound Professional Headphones (Electronics)
These Ultrasone Proline 650 Headphones are terrific & I definately recommend these over the the other 2 Ultrasone Headphones I tried (the HFI 700 & 2200 ULE). I got these on sale at a great price. I originally got the HFI 700's on Ebay that sounded great like hearing from speakers & it really did feel like surround sound when listening to DVD's but they were so physically uncomfortable on my ears & very hot that I traded them in for the 2200's which were more comfortable but didn't sound as good. I then traded those in for the Proline 650's and hit jackpot! Even though they are sealed headphones they are very comfortable- much more so then the 700's & the 2200's & sound as good if not better then them with great surround sound albeit I wouldn't say I was hearing speaker sound but they sounded great,. I am using these headphones to listen to DVD's, CD's & TV via my Denon receiver at night because I live in an apartment. This is one of the best electronic purchases I made. The Proline 650's rule! One thing to note is, you have to attach the cords of the 650's & it took me 5 minutes till I had this plugged in right and got the proper sound balance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Provides good, clear surround sound. But know what these are intended for., April 9, 2008
This review is from: ULTRASONE PROline 650 S-Logic Surround Sound Professional Headphones (Electronics)
A pair of headphones that costs $200 and up must provide some high end sound. These babies do at a very professional quality. However each pair in the line of Ultrasone headphones has a specific use. These are for clear sound, really good for picking up distant or buried sound effects or music. It's not real big on the bass (they have a pair for that) I love them especially for plugging into an amplifier and listening to every single strum on a guitar string. They are still great of course for kicking back and listening to music on your ipod too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sound awesome but not real comforable, December 19, 2008
This review is from: ULTRASONE PROline 650 S-Logic Surround Sound Professional Headphones (Electronics)
I agree with those prior reviewers on their incredible sound quality. You can hear every nuance. They are a bit tight to wear though. The electrostatic shielding they provide is another matter...possibly more important than any other consideration now that they say cell phone use may not be that great for your health. Something to think about.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bread and Butter for the Indie Producer or DJ, October 13, 2009
This review is from: ULTRASONE PROline 650 S-Logic Surround Sound Professional Headphones (Electronics)
I purchased these over a year ago for work, and WOW was I impressed. I swear by them now! Bear in mind these are mainly intended for professional use and the goal of them is to accurately reflect the mix, not make it "sound good".

At this price point, you are simply not going to get more bang for the buck. If you're on a limited budget, I highly recommend spending $300 on these over 1k on actual studio monitors. No, it's not the same, but you can make professional mixes on them. For most of us, it's more important these days to make sure mixes sound good on headphones anyways.

The closed design blocks out a lot of unwanted sound making them ideal for sub-par mixing environments or live DJ work. The bass response is AMAZING for headphones. The volume on the low frequencies isn't obscenely boosted - again this is a professional tool. So if you want to work effectively with bass in your mixes, these puppies will please you. To give a small idea, I can hear 10 hz tones clearly on them.

These are built for long periods of use and are very comfortable to me as far as closed designs go. There is definitely less listening fatigue from them than other headphones I have worn, and it's great to know that I can push the volume a little bit without hurting my precious ears. All in all, I would say it is the single most valuable and versatile piece of hardware I own for my production work.

I really wish I could post a link to a song I wrote and produced on these babies, just so you could all hear how clean and crisp you can mix on these. But I think that's against the review guidelines, so my word will have to do. And I say these headphones are AWESOME!

5.0 out of 5 stars amazing sound, July 16, 2010

Jay (Philadelphia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: ULTRASONE PROline 650 S-Logic Surround Sound Professional Headphones (Electronics)
Pros:
Amazing sound. Good bass response. Nicely balanced. Does NOT require a headphone amp to get great sound. I've had mine for like 5 years, and I can't say I've treated them that great, and they are still working like champs.

Cons:
Not the most comfortable ever when lying down/napping. But, they aren't really touching your ears, they are around your ears, and that's the important part. I can be happy wearing them for 8-10 hours at a stretch if I'm sitting up, making music, or running on the treadmill. But they aren't as comfortable for say, lying down and taking a nap.

I'm a sound editor and mainly deal with production recordings so noise floor is very important to my work and being able to hear the detail... don't waste your money.
