5.0 out of 5 stars It's better than ever October 1, 2001
Format:CD-ROM
I got GIF Animator 5 as an upgrade to version 4. Wow, what an improvement, Ulead! I love the fact that you can animate objects within the program and not have to toggle back and forth with my image editor. Plus, the way it links with my image editor is awesome. Thanks, Ulead, for adding true color palettes so I can get my files down to very managable sizes. I am going to put aside Image Ready for now and have a hey day with this one.

I am not a pro at all. I just wanted to play around a build my own animated emoticons/smileys.
This product is good, but if you want transition and filering effects (i.e. effects on your animations, instead of just a looping sequence of pictures) you have to buy an Add-in software called "F/X for GIF Animator" by the same firm Unlead.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't pay $140.00 - GET Photoshop v6.0's ImageReady April 18, 2012
Format:CD-ROM
I saw this up for sale at $140.00 and had to write a review. GIF Animator is good - but Adobe's ImageReady is better. It accepts all of the Photoshop plugins for version 6.0, it does everything that GIF Animator does, and it comes with Photoshop v6.0. Now! If you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7 you have to run it in compatibility mode (Vista) and you have to install the Virtual Windows XP program and run it in that manner (Windows 7) but it WILL do everything GIF Animator does and a thousand other things that GIF Animator will not do. There are people out there selling the 10,000 brushes & plugins CDs for around $20.00 that will give you everything under the sun for ImageReady (and Photoshop v6.0). Photoshop v6.0 can be had for as little as $10.00 on eBay sometimes. You install it and then update it so it will properly handle PNG files. YES! Photoshop v6.0 will handle PNG file creation as well as about 15 other file formats. True - it doesn't do red eye removal (unless you get the plugins) and its biggest feature is the batch capabilities (which I really like) and it is older software, looks like it was made for XP, doesn't have the Aero look and all that stuff like that there! But I don't care. $10.00 versus $140.00 for both Photoshop AND ImageReady? Thousands of plugins instead of twenty or so? And an interface that you probably already know from using Photoshop? If you are going to buy older software anyway - why not get the best you can? Check it out. I only remembered about ImageReady myself tonight around 8:00pm. I had looked across the internet for something to make animated GIFs with. The best I had found was FlexGIF which was really nice but at $80.00 a whack - I wasn't all that happy with it. Read more ›

2.0 out of 5 stars NEVER MIND the file size.... September 18, 2001
Format:CD-ROM
Over and over again I tried to slice the file size of finished animation - to no avail.
Yes - if you only used a postage stamp size image you might get by with being able to use it on your website with a halfway decent loading time.
We tried to use the gif animator in our gallery on several occasions - guranted, with high quality images of max filesize 12kb each (can't go any lower if anyone is to see any quality at all) and the finished, so called improved file size still was larger than any website page can carry - unless you want to wait for the 30-45 seconds for that single instance to load - no one does, not even at the best websites. So, we have another 'wonderful' program dusting away on our shelves.

5.0 out of 5 stars WAY Overpriced!! February 16, 2012
Format:CD-ROM
I can't believe the prices being asked for a DISCONTINUED program! Ulead doesn't even own it anymore. It was sold to Corel who promptly discontinued it. It came FREE for many years with PhotoImpact. Corel still has it available but I think it's like $29.99 or in that price range and it's the same program. Whoever is selling it at these inflated prices are ripping people off.

While I think it is one of the best animation programs around, why would anyone buy a product that's no longer being sold by the company and that will never be upgraded and may not even run on the next version of Windows? There is NO support for this program. It just irritates me to see people being taken advantage of.

5.0 out of 5 stars GIF Animation Tools February 28, 2005
Format:CD-ROM
I used Ulead GIF Animator in an unusual way.

I shot live footage on my Cannon GL1 and then downloaded it into GIF animator for frame-by-frame editing where I could do about 300 frames at a time (10 seconds). In the editing, I could remove things I didn't want to look at, or block out a spot that will "chroma key" in another image later. Then, I'd take the AVI output format, put it into a video editor, and put it back with the superimposed images and sound. Not classic. Not cool, but doable with a $50 software package.
