Terrible with Win2000/XP,
By A Customer
This review is from: Umax Astra 2200 Scanner (Office Product)
1- Doesn't work with Win2000/XP2- Umax tells you to BUY (!) their driver for Win2000/XP (not downloadable) 3- Even with the appropriate driver, the Umax 2200 still doesn't work. ... Very frustrating. Terrible support/brand. Do not touch UMAX with a 10 foot poll!

Bought it at a rummage sale for $15. Another $15 for the CD from Umax w/ the Windows XP drivers. Once the CD arrived, I installed everything and had it up and running (with only minor hiccups) on my Win XP Pro system in about a half-hour. Not the best scanner, but quite acceptable for what I need now, and quite a deal at a total of $30.

Useless Umax support,

This scanner worked fine under windows 98. It does NOT work properly with any later operating system from Microsoft. Umax support is non-existant. They want you to pay for driver updates, and then the driver updates still don't work. They say Windows built-in scanning capabilities are supported, they aren't. Stay away from this scanner, far away.

Umax [is bad]for customer service,

Buy Umax only if you will never upgrade your software. If you plan on upgrading your operating system in the future Umax is not the way to go. Any time you need to upgrade drivers for say a new operating system or if you lost yours, unlike most other computer manufacturers, Umax will not let you download drivers for the upgrade. Instead they will mail you the drivers for just [money amount]. Real customer service.

Requires new driver for XP,

Worked well with Windows 98, though a bit slow on my old AMD K6 2-233 clunker. Copy and Print buttons on scanner are nice features.Tried to move scanner to new Windows XP box. Found I need to purchase (cannot download) VistaScan 3.55 or something-rather for $9, and download an XP driver. See UMAX site for more info. Maybe it is just time for me to upgrade to a better scanner.

great scanner,
This review is from: Umax Astra 2200 Scanner (Office Product)
I bought this one new last year and it works just great with Word and Adobe. Then I changed operating systems to Windows ME and ME does not support it. Neither does XP. However, XP does not support Norton either so it is not the fault of UMAX that the scanner does not work.

I purchased the scanner with the intent to use it with my pc. I used it in that capacity for about 9 months. I then purchased a Mac and thought that i would end-up having to buy a new scanner, not so. The Umax 2200 adjusted swimmingly and seems to be even easier to use with an Apple. It is really great at scanning negs and slides. One huge bonus is the software that you receive with it. Photoshop LE!!! Ya-Hoo for Umax!

Used to work ok in win 98 but when I upgraded to XP it's nearly useless (considering how expensive it is!)It only works if you unplug the transparency cover and UMAX won't upgrade the drivers for XP. I bought it for slides and it wasn;t even great at those - bad colour reproduction. I have to fix almost every image with photophop. I advsise against this and will not be buying any more umax products.

buy something else,

This scanner is garbage. Why?- Umax claims that it can scan negatives & slides. It does a horrible job, as it does not have the true resolution to scan media so small, and the color/contrast is awful when scanning these transparent media. - Umax claims (now) that this scanner will work with Windows XP with new drivers. It does not. It may work once in a while, but frequently crashes/locks up the scanner software and becomes useless. - Umax support is awful. They charge you for updated drivers, when they finally get around to updating them. Then you find out that the new drivers are still broken. - Not only should you not buy this scanner, you should NEVER buy a Umax scanner. Period.

I bought the $15.00 upgrade CD from Umax when I moved it to a XP system, but it did not work. I attempted to call them for service they want to charge another $25.00 for the phone call. They simply don't work with XP systems.
