Taking this to the UK allows US style plugs to be plugged into a UK power socket. NOTE.. this is not a converter. The UK voltage is 230V and the adapter does not change the voltage to the 115V used in America. A lot of devices are now auto sensing and work from 115-230V, it will be stamped on the device or its power supply. Make sure that it does before plugging it in, it will damage the device if it is only supposed to work with 115V.

We used this adapter while traveling in Ireland and had no problems using devices (laptop, Iphone, camera) equipped to handle European power supply. This adapter worked in all of our hotels; a competitor's model did not. It proved to be a relatively inexpensive and worthwhile purchase.

For some reason, people keep reviewing these adapters by saying that there is a loose grip on the prongs of U.S.-type plugs. Well, I just got a batch of these adapters and, if anything, the grip is too tight! (Not complaining - just describing.) I plugged in several power cords - for my phone, a hair dryer, a lamp - and all of them were held firmly in place. Please ignore these oddball critiques. This is just what you expect it to be - a low-priced, generic, simple device to adapt your U.S.-type plug to the outlets in places like the U.K. Don't make life more complicated than it needs to be...

The adapter pictured isn't what you can expect to receive. I have the one pictured, and it works great which is why I ordered more of them. What I received are cheap adapter that don't accept different-width blades common on many US electrical items. For computers, iPhones, etc., they should work OK, but if you need something to accept different-width blades, this isn't going to work for you.

I bought these during the summer while in the US before moving to Singapore. Now that I've gotten here (and now that the return window has expired) I have tried plugging in my US 110/240v capable plugs. The plug sits securely in the large 3-prong Singapore outlets, but when plugging in any two prong US style blade-plug on the universal side it sits so insecurely that it bounces in and out of contact making sparks. The other 6-pack of simple adapters for half the cost work much better. Stay away from these.

This adapter is reasonably well-made and accepts both three-pin US plugs and two-pin US plus. It also accepts plus from other countries, because the female side of the adapter has a clever "universal design". However, it does not accept two-pin polarized plugs, such as those you find on hair dryers with one pin wider than the other. I found that both two-pin and three-pin US plugs fit firmly into the adapter: the fit is neither too loose nor too tight. The three pins on the male (UK) side of the adapter are firmly anchored and do not wobble, although they look a little unpolished, with a few dark spots on the metal; but they seem to make good contact, so that doesn't worry me. Overall, these are very good value for money.

I have purchased several UK-to-US adapters in a so-far-unsuccessful attempt to find the perfect one. For me a perfect adapter would be one that accepts three-pin US plugs, US two-pin plugs, and two-pin polarized US plugs. My initial conclusions are: the only adapters that support polarized US plugs are two-pin-only adapters; even these are hard to find; and you can't rely on product photos showing polarized slots on the product.

I am currently visiting London right now where I am using this item. Seems to work on most everything (including this Laptop). Had a slight problem with my flat iron not wanting to work after the first time but my sisters works fine. Everything else seems to work perfectly.
I have seen a couple for sale at corner stores for about 4 pounds so the price was good for the purchase before the trip. And didn't have to shop for them when I got here.

I brought this on a trip to Africa (with a stopover in London). It worked. I brought 2 of these and 1 of another brand, just in case. I only ended up using one of these (for an international powerstrip). I worked fine with no failure, but I did lose one (so bring a spare... they're cheap enough!). If you happen to be going to Kenya or Tanzania with US electronics, this is the style of adapter you need (it can be confusing when doing the research).

Took them on my trip to IRE worked just fine. Allows my multi volt adapters to work in IRE and England. Nice low price.

I went on a trip to Europe to London and this power adapter worked perfectly. I didn't have any issues at all, worked perfectly as described. Just make sure your electronic's AC adapters support 220V and you'll be fine. This worked in the apartment we stayed at.
