5.0 out of 5 stars Informative and Artistic, March 7, 2005

Jim (Los Angeles) - See all my reviews
This review is from: UNIVERSE-The Cosmology Quest (DVD)
This is one of the best documentary films I've ever seen. It has made me question everything I thought I knew about the origin and evolution of the universe as well as all "new discoveries" as they are based on the belief that the Big Bang actually happened.

Who knew there was such controversy? It isn't mentioned in the press and the word theory has pretty much disappeared in connection with the Big Bang. It was a surprise to learn that so many scientists disagree with it and also that supporters have gone to such efforts to preserve it.

While I hesitate to call a film that deals with the cosmological constant and the deuterium abundance as "exciting", this film does stay interesting both thematically and visually by combining the scientific information with the personal recollections and views of several scientists and illustrating it with great computer animations.

I highly recommend this film.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely outstanding work, July 26, 2006
This review is from: UNIVERSE-The Cosmology Quest (DVD)
I bought this film some time ago and have seen it many times. From the point of view of content it is an absolutely outstanding work. The visuals and artistic structuring also deserve merit, but most of all it is the sociological and scientific messages that are most arresting. I have also permitted myself to read the other articles about this film on Amazon. Of course everyone is entitled to his or her opinion and criticism, but when two different people complain about the lack of English subtitles on "some Norwegian scientists" then I have to laugh. Hey guys maybe you are not acquainted with DVD technology and therefore are not aware that there are different versions of the film on your disks. If you had taken the time and used a little smarts, you would certainly have noticed the "International version", clicked on it and gotten those Scandinavians you so disliked with English (embedded) subtitles - no problem. For me this little slip on your side totally undermines the rest of what you said you saw.

5.0 out of 5 stars I recommend, October 31, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

The academic world is based on "mantras" (big-bang, relativity, etc). If you do believe in these mantras, dont buy this DVD. However, if you prefer the red pill, I believe that you will enjoy it a lot.
