Good information, but poor presentation,
By A Customer
This review is from: UNIX C Shell Desk Reference (Paperback)
This book contains a lot of good information. I learned a great deal. However, it contains quite a few typographical errors which could have fooled me if I hadn't already had a basic knowledge of the C shell. It also uses typefaces which make it difficult to understand. For instance, the reader cannot distinguish the forward single quote (') from the backward single quote (`) in the typeface used throughout the book. This difference is critical given the context! It needs another printing after a lot of proofreading and reformatting.

A good "time saver",

This review is from: UNIX C Shell Desk Reference (Paperback)
I've been using UNIX on and off for a couple of years, but didn't systematically learn the powerful C shell tricks. This little book just fits in for this task: truely a "learn it in 24 hours" type (if you have some experience) --- don't call it that name in the 2nd edition though! --- It also solved some of my mysteries about why certain commands are used in that way. Overall this is a good book. It can save you a lot of time, both from learning C Shell AND from work in using C shell. One thing could be added: a summery of all the commands. |
