Product Description

A dock neighbor of Peter’s is charged with murder. Unfortunately, this boat neighbor is a suspended police officer with a known dislike for people who are the color of his alleged victim, and he was arrested standing over the dead man’s body.

Although seemingly impossible, the defense gets even more difficult when ballistics shows that the defendant’s gun was the murder weapon.

In addition to the murder defense, Peter once again manages to keep juggling more than one case at a time while he also gets involved with who he thinks might be ‘Miss Right,’ represents a 500-pound woman who is being discriminated against by her landlord, and unintentionally uncovers a white supremist militant organization, and a group of people who are bootlegging copies of recently released major motion pictures.

If all this isn’t enough to completely fill Peter’s plate, his ex-wife, prosecuting District Attorney Myra Scot, makes a mistake when she subpoenas little Suzi to come and testify as a prosecution witness against the defendant, believing that Suzi knows more about the case than anyone else, due to her friendship with the defendant.

After what Suzi testifies in court and attempts to destroy Myra’s case, everyone knows that the District Attorney’s office will never subpoena Suzi again, and it’s worth reading the entire book just to see how Suzi manages to get her dog into the courtroom.

All thirteen of the Peter Sharp Legal Mysteries are now available.

From the Publisher

This is another adventure in the Peter Sharp Legal Mystery series that author Gene Grossman created. Like the others, it features attorney Sharp and his brilliant 12 year old legal ward Suzi, who invariably winds up solving whatever case Peter is working on. Suzi is a computer genius and possesses crime-solving logic on a par with what was formerly displayed only by people like Sherlock Holmes and Nero Wolfe.

Adult readers will enjoy the challenge of matching wits with this 12 year old girl, seeing if they can beat her to the solution of each legal mystery.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun read that nicely ties together all loose ends in the climax, August 10, 2011
Until Proven Innocent, Peter Sharp Legal Mystery #5, ISBN: 1882629515, Magic Lamp Press, Paperback 276 pages by Gene Grossman.
This novel follows the activities of lawyer Peter Sharp, his ex-wife and District Attorney Myra Scot, his child ward, Suzi Braunstein, a computer wizard daughter of his deceased former partner, and her `assistant', a huge St Bernard called Bernie.
The plot follows his actions in preparing a defense for "Tony the Cop" , a racist "Dirty Harry" type character and Peter's neighbor in the boat marina where he lives. The problem is magnified by the fact that Tony's recently-fired S&W .50 caliber revolver is in his possession with an empty shell in the chamber when the police are called to the scene. The crime scene is a building empty of all but the victim and Tony and the time is late evening.
Along with Peter's attempts at developing a defense, are a series of contacts with others for rather diverse reasons. There are the producer of a motion picture and his associates who require a consultant, Olive, a former telephone sex operator who is being blackmailed, another grossly obese member of the same group with different problems, Stuart Schwartzman, an entrepreneurial friend, Evelyn, and her daughter who is a young starlet in the film production and assorted others.
The author has woven these various individuals and their activities into a well-tailored plot that involves not only the primary theme of a defense for Tony, but implicates a White Supremacy Group and a DVD pirating operation as well. All of the various stories are wrapped-up in a most interesting climax that very nicely ties together all loose ends in a most admiral fashion. The story is a most enjoyable read. Reviewed by John H. Manhold, award winning fiction/non-fiction author.

More About the Author

Gene Grossman was born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in the North side neighborhood of Albany Park, attending Hibbard Elementary and Von Steuben High School. He pursued majors in psychology, chemistry and mathematics at Wright Junior College, Roosevelt University and Illinois Institute of Technology - all the while working his way through high school and college by playing piano in clubs on Chicago's then-famous "Rush Street."

After moving to Southern California, he worked his way through law school playing piano, and appeared as a musician in seven major motion pictures.

While slowly building his law practice, Gene purchased a truckload of movie equipment (a 5-ton grip & light package) that he rented out to flim production companies.

Always having been interested in boating, getting divorced prompted him to move onto a 45-foot Chris Craft motor yacht in Marina del Rey California, instead of into an apartment.

Years later, while serving as navigator on a yacht delivery from the U.S. to Tortola, Gene wrote his first book, Celestial Navigation for Dummies (some time before the popular series of 'Dummies' books was created). He used his own production equipment to shoot a video on the subject Celestial Navigation, Sextant Use and the Sun Noon Shot and at the same time unintentionally started the nautical video industry.

Over the next few years he followed that first title up with more than 30 other educational video titles (now in DVD format) now all featured on BoatingDVDs.com, one of 93 different domains his production company maintains on the internet, featuring many categories of educational programs (MagicLampDVDs.com).

Having moved on from doing scripts for his video productions, Gene turned to writing fiction, and now spends most of his time in the marina on his yacht, the "Magic Lamp," where he created the 15-book series of Peter Sharp Legal Mysteries, all now available on Amazon through LegalMystery.com.

In addition to the 15 Peter Sharp novels, Gene compiled a group of fiction and non-fiction titles that he has either written or edited for others, plus some classic stories: the publishing company he formed (MagicLampPress.com) now has more than 50 books in print, with 35 of them written by Gene under his own name or several pen names that he humorously keeps secret.

His latest venture is a company that provides financing for post-production (completion) of motion pictures - www.FilmCompletionFinance.com
