Book Description

Paris in the spring is a city for lovers, but for Conor O'Neil and Miranda Beckman, the city is a place where the truth is always just out of reach. Miranda's life is in danger, and Conor will do whatever it takes to save her, even if it means not letting her know he's working for the government. For her part, Miranda will do whatever it takes to keep Conor from learning the truth about her past. And yet, the one thing neither can lie about is the passion that blazes between them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable read.... April 14, 2012

Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Keep in mind, having to read many professional journals and books, when I look to one of these types of books it is for fun and escape, and this meet those requirements. Enough mystery and suspense to keep one interested, enough love interest and conflict to keep the reader wanting to know what happens, and a story that keeps you guessing, at least for quite a while. Add to that, it was free on Kindle when I downloaded it. Seems like a winner to me!

1.0 out of 5 stars Slow. Lacks realism. Not worth it. November 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Let me start off by saying I will only review books which I have read, suffered through, until the end page.
With that said, yes, I suffered through this book.
I love romances. I love crime thrillers. I love mysteries. I love government thrillers with committees and dirty deeds. I love all types of books. With that said, this review is one star NOT because it wasn't my genre or cup of literary tea, because it should have been.
First, the book started EXTREMELY slow and spent WAY too much time on a character that you never see again after the first few chapters she's in.
Second, the female lead was extremely annoying, shallow even internally, and wasn't developed in the least.
Third, the book was 40,000 words too long which is saying a lot since I very rarely ever say that.
Man falls in love with woman right away, from a picture of her as a minor, painted by a child molester?
Okay, it could happen.
Woman is a world famous model even though she doesn't model in the US?
Eh, not likely but we'll go with it.
The worst parents in the world being the focus of the story and the only thing giving it any type of conflict?
*Dramatic sigh* sure, why not?
But what wouldn't happen is having trained operatives that work for the government doing their dirty deeds having a model get the slip on them.
That wouldn't happen in any way, shape or form.
I understand that there needed to be SOMETHING there, but come on. Can we at least pretend that it is slightly realistic?!
The sex scenes between the leads were anything but romantic or stimulating.
Having a book with LOTS of crude language, including the taboo C-Word (again, I am not complaining and love crude language, so that isn't my complaint) and yet the author used medical terminology for the sex scenes!? That was a miss and a half. It horribly disconnected the reader from the story and moment, and everything was lost in translation.
The male lead...internally she was a whiny character that I wanted to strangle by the time he said LIED for the 5,000th time. Can someone say REPEATING WHAT HAS ALREADY BEEN STATED AS A MEANS TO BUILD UP THE WORD COUNT?! Because I can.
The friends in France were...the gay guy was great, I loved him, but the girl was annoying and I found myself completely skipping over her dialogue because she was so annoyingly self-centered and why is she here again? that I was hoping someone would have killed her simply to add to the story.
With that all said...
Would I recommend this story?
No.
Why?
For an author that is a BEST SELLER I expected more, including proper editing. There were grammatical errors (I understand it happens to all of us but there were too many to NOT mention). I also expect a proper ending and not a one chapter rush job that felt as if we were getting the brush off. She didn't even mention that the main character was knocked up and that was why she was eating like that. It's as if it slipped her mind or was removed in editing because she was unable to deliver.

So in closing, if you want a fast paced read that keeps you on the edge of your seat and eager to turn the page, skip this one. It will leave you saying WHY DID I READ THIS when you read the end.

More About the Author

I live in New England now but I was born in New York City and lived in or near the city most of my life. It's where I met my husband--I was fifteen and a senior in high school! He was at both my high school and college graduations. We have a lot of shared, wonderful history.

After we married, I taught elementary school for a while. Then I settled into being a wife and mother but the desire to write was always there. I'd written short stories when I was little--the first, which I illustrated myself, I wrote when I was seven! I never really stopped writing and one day I looked in the mirror and said, "Okay, Sandra, you've always wanted to be a published writer. Maybe it's time you did something about it."

I'd always been interested in the complex ways in which men and women relate to each so it seemed natural to start writing romance fiction. I wrote short stories and sold several of them. Finally, I took a deep breath, sat down and wrote my very first novel. To my amazement and joy, Harlequin Presents bought it.
