"Untouched by Human Hands" is a collection of thirteen short fiction stories by Robert Sheckley, which was originally published in March of 1954. Sheckley has a way of looking at things from a different perspective which makes this collection unique. He also brings a good sense of humor to his writing, which makes this collection a quick and fun read. Robert Sheckley was first published in 1952, and this collection contains a lot of his earliest stories which were first published in 1952 and 1953.

The first story is "The Monsters", a short story which was first published in the March 1953 edition of "Fantasy and Science Fiction" (F&SF). This story takes the alien viewpoint of humans landing on their planet. It touches on the societal and ethical assumptions which we make, and how aliens might do the same.

"Cost of Living" is a short story which was first published in F&SF in December of 1952. This story is a look at the future of our society, from the perspective of using debt to afford what we want. The story, if anything, is even more appropriate today.

"The Altar" is a short story which was first published in "Fantastic" in the July/August edition in 1953. It is a fantasy story, where Mr. Slater is a man who is bothered when he is unable to give directions to "The Altar of Baz-Matain", a place which Mr. Slater has never heard of in the town which he knows so well.

"Shape" is a novelette which was published under the name "Keep Your Shape" in the November 1953 edition of "Galaxy". It is an alien invasion story, where the aliens are shapeless beings who stick to the shape of their profession. They are attempting to take over Earth after several previous attempts have disappeared.

This is a simply wonderful book of short SF stories written in the classical period. I believe Sheckley was just 18 when he wrote these stories. It's his first published book and probably his best. If you enjoy the golden age of classical SF, buy this book and hold onto it.
