4.0 out of 5 stars We've been very pleased
My six year old nephew and I really enjoy this game. We play it on an hp. My nephew has no problems manuevering Russel using the keyboard. I'm quite impressed with the acrobatics he can do. Some of the tasks are difficult at first, but with practice and "replaying" a chapter we do pretty well. Both our skills have improved greatly since our first attempt. Having said...

3.0 out of 5 stars decent but hard game - requires xbox controller
this is a decent but hard game - no way to play it with the keyboard since you can't make some of the angled jumps. Anyway, you will need an xbox controller to play it on a pC

Having said that the one problem we are having is collecting items to use so that we can procede to the next chapter. We have a lot of them but are currently stopped at chapter 8(?) because we do not have one tool neccessary to procede. I wish there was a clearer and easier way to get this tool. We keep trying but have failed so far. Even if we can't go any further, we have had hours of great fun with this game. I especially like that he and I must work together through all of these adventures. It has been chalenging at times, but we learn cooperation, patience with our partner in play, and an understanding that we play our best, sometimes fail, but always strive to have fun. We enjoy the graphics. The adventures are fun. I'm glad I bought this game, and so is my nephew. He's a better player than I am. It's been great.

2.0 out of 5 stars Terrible Game Control on Keyboard, Poor Graphics, May 9, 2010
By
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: UP (CD-ROM)
Two experienced game players (PC and console) found the keyboard control lacking. Other reviews here suggest a better experience using a joystick, which is not listed as a requirement on the box.

Also, the graphics are weak! What would have been acceptable a few years ago is simply horrible today, given: 1. what competing games offer and 2. the fact the this game is part of a visually rich computer-generated franchise. Even the introductory video shows artifacts which amateur raytracers would not tolerate.

This is a tragically wasted opportunity. "Up" is such a wonderful movie, and presents the game designer with unbelievable potential, yet this game fails to deliver.

Conclusion: If you have a joystick on your PC, and you find this game at a very good price, you might gamble on this one. Otherwise, don't bother.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too hard for young children., December 9, 2009
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: UP (CD-ROM)
I bought this game for a Mac, unfortunately Apple doesn't do well with the graphics. Fortunately the disk also has the Windows version which worked on the Mac using bootcamp... So a rocky start for the kids.... Then it goes down hill. The graphics are a bit stuttery in places, even with the detail set to low. Not a problem in game play but a little pain when watching the movies between levels.

The real problem in this game is that it is darned hard to play. You have to use keyboard controls which normally isn't a problem but try and jump your man at a 45 degree angle on the screen using W,A,S,D buttons... its not easy for an experienced gamer and next to impossible for a child that this game is intended for.

Now, the other major problem is the manual is all but pointless. The game includes the ability to map your keys to different controls. Which would be great. Only problem is there is nothing to explain how to do it. You get to the menu screen where this is done and click on "jump" to change it from the "space bar" to a "shift key" well you can change it fine... but then when you try to click on accept to lock in that change it doesn't accept it, instead it changes "shift key" to "moust click".... yeah... now you find that you are on a menu screen that you can't get out of without shutting down the whole game. I'm sure there must be a way to do it but the manual doesn't explain how and there is no online help available either. So don't even try to use the control menu it will be a trap.

Of course you will also have your child constantly asking for help on the levels because they are so hard so be warned the nice idea will become a big pain when you are asked to help on every other level.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too difficult, maybe easier on a video game platform than Vista., July 11, 2009
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: UP (CD-ROM)
Too difficult for my 5 and almost 10 year old. My 12 year old and I also tried to help. Perhaps it's better on a video game platform. Terrible on Vista. My oldest is 15 and we haven't seen good software since he was a little kid.
