Customer Reviews

Easy install, very sturdy design.

The canopy has 3 positions and takes quite a bit of force to click through them to get it fully extended.

The seat is a great accessory for our uppababy vista stroller.

My husband and I are first time parents, and we were absolutely lost when it came to baby supplies. We eventually settled on the Uppababy Vista stroller (which is awesome), but deciding on a car seat took a little longer. We were almost set to get the Chicco KeyFit, but found out that Uppababy was releasing their own car seat too. When we tried it out in the stores, we were convinced! Installs VERY easily, looks amazing and classy (not cheap like other ones), and it's so easy to use with our stroller (comes with the adapters too).

I would disagree with other reviewers who say it is too heavy... yes, it is heavier by a pound or two than some other models, but once your baby is in it you'll never notice the difference. I also don't think the shade makes much noise when adjusting, but that's my opinion. On a related note, we haven't used it in the rain yet, but I have heard that the canopy easily gets water stains (and the company is aware of this issue)... I watched the Uppababy video demonstrating how to remove the canopy for washing though, so I'm going to wash it beforehand to hopefully prevent the staining issue. They also show you how to re-install it afterwards.
Overall, very satisfied!!

We took a big risk purchasing this seat on preorder before it had actually been released by the manufacturer last year. (It was not purchased form Amazon) My husband and I both viewed a demo version, played around with it and decided that it was the seat for us. Normally I insist on reading lots of reviews but we had a really good feeling about it.

Prior to baby's arrival we discovered that installation of the base was as easy as advertised. That was very important to us as clueless first time parents. Later on I ended up taking this seat and installing it baseless on several airplane seats and it was quite easy to do. It was also very easy to install baseless with the European belt routing in my parents' car so ease of use for us really lived up to the hype.

Our son was born 7 lbs. 4 ozs. and just under 20" long. He fit well in the seat right away and it appeared that it would have easily fit a much smaller baby although our son does have a really long torso for his height and weight. We used the seat with him until he was just over 8 months old and about 20 pounds, 27-28" tall (hard to measure him at home). Due to bulky cloth diapers and his long torso this was about as far as he got before the 1" rule kicked in. With a paper diaper I suspect he would have gone to 10 months and with a shorter torso I'm sure he would have gone to a year or more.

Adjusting the harness height and tightening and loosening the straps was always very easy, even when the seat was installed in the car with a baby sitting in it. A little tip on the strap pads. If you are using the pinch method to test for tightness put the velcro opening up facing away from the shoulder so you can undo the pads and do the pinch test.

Our seat was manufactured in March 2013 and we received it in June 2013. At that time, quantities were limited and we considered ourselves lucky to have received one. Our previous experience was limited to the Graco Snugride carseats - a Classic Connect 30 that is advertised as weighing 7.5 pounds and a Platinum 22 that is also advertised as weighing 7.5 pounds.

Pros:
- Installation of the base was very easy. This was one of the selling points for us as I found the base of the Graco seats very difficult to install and we frequently have to remove the seats.
- The fabric is fairly soft and our youngest seems less fussy in this seat compared to the Graco
- It is compatible with our 2010 Vista using the provided adapters

Cons:
- The Uppababy Mesa is advertised as weighing 10.5 pounds. In reality the extra 3 pounds are noticeable when compared to the Graco and it feels as if it weighs twice as much.
- The sunshade came detached from the back of the carseat after 3 weeks of normal use. We can sort of stuff the edge of the canopy back into the shell of the car seat, but this is a really poor design as it becomes detached quite easily each time we adjust the seat. I strongly recommend they fix this. At least screw it into the back of the seat or glue it or something.
- The canopy has 3 positions and takes quite a bit of force to click through them to get it fully extended. No way the baby can stay asleep through this.

PROS:
*Comes with adaptors to work with the UPPAbaby Vista
*sleek design
*Beautiful smooth/soft canopy that hides in the back, love that and was a major reason I purchased this
*No rethreading necessary, so it's very similar to my 3 year-olds Britax marathon, there's a small belt that needs to be pulled at the top and then the belt height adjusts accordingly
*Nice colors - I purchased Lindsey Wheat
*Sturdy Base and option to buckle in directly with easy instructions
*Base is the easiest latch system I've ever installed, IN MY LIFE! Watch videos to see proper installation method

CONS:
*While it does come in beautiful colors, and I purchased the Lindsey Wheat, what was UPPAbaby thinking when making an ivory car seat - and what was I thinking to purchase it?! haha
>to expand on the above, the canopy STAINS big time when wet, so if you get water on it, or dog slobber (true example) it will get a water stain. My suggestion: Watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgEuERyWkjM // and do this before you use the car seat. There is likely some kind of residual product in the canopy that causes it to stain like that - it just needs to be removed. The instructions do say that mild detergent is fine for use on the fabric seat and canopy.
*HEAVY! For reviews that say it's minimal, that's crap - 2 or 3 lbs may seem like a small number, but take a 3 lb weight and carry it around all day, that's heavy - add on the weight of an average infant seat, and then add in the actual infant, that's a lot to carry.
