Even on closer visual examination it looks just like any other coin. But when held in hand one can say something is not right. It is very light. Also when dropped it makes a different sound.
But this can also be a good thing.
If you carry several coins in your wallet, you can easily say which one is the one. While if someone is searching through your wallet for a MicroSD card (the one with your passwords, financial data, etc) he/she surely won't even bother to test each coin.
The ring can be worn with your keys. It's made of some hard aluminum, it doesn't get bent or even scratched too easily.
The milling-out of the interior is not as spacious as the picture. It's close enough that a little work will fit the micro-SD, but that is it. Call up your russian buddies and get some surplus microdot equipment before you try this.
For the twenty bucks they're asking, I just have to say don't bother with it.
The compartment, however, is too small to hold a Micro SD card as it is advertised to do -- there's not enough clearance to close the coin with the card inside. By filing down the card's tab a little bit and polishing the inside of the compartment with my Dremel, I have gotten it closer, but the coin still cannot fully close with the card inside. Being that this is what it's advertised for -- and accordingly what I bought it for -- this is highly disappointing.
Really cool gadget for the guy who has almost every gadget imaginable.
The quarter sounds hollow compared to a normal one, but looks identical. No one will be able to tell the difference; don't accidentally spend it!
They fit a Micro SD card as advertised and can withstand a reasonable degree of scrutiny. The machining is executed with a high degree of precision. You have to know to look for a seam then look very closely to find it. If you carry it with your change of course you have to be very careful not to spend your special coin.
You also have to remember to orient the front and back so they both point "up" together. I was sloppy, showed the coin to a friend, and he said "Hey, why's the picture on the back at a funny angle?" I told him it was a rare mistake made at the mint, which makes this coin valuable to collectors. He looked closely but never noticed the seam where the front and back joined.
I gave one to a friend who is about to start a course to become a machinist as and example of the kind of thing he'll be able to create by the time he graduates.

Let it be clear: DOES NOT FIT MICRO SD CARDS. While indeed hollow, at $25 it was a pretty solid rip-off.Published 29 days ago by Dexzy

clever hiding place for a microSD card, but the coin is hard to open. Instructions advice to hit it hard to open. Read morePublished 3 months ago by Jose Luis Garcia
The product is not an open coin, it is a piece intended to open a coin which did not work and was not worth the money.Published 4 months ago by Mercedes
Awesome construction makes the seam difficult to see, unless you know it is there. Unfortunately a micro SD card would need to be flattened to fit, but does what it is meant to do.Published 6 months ago by Ben Couture
just so you know i am a avid collector of "gimmick" coins. The machining of this coin is sub-par nether the shell nor the cap is centered properly. Read morePublished 6 months ago by feyd
