The kids love the game as I had a lot of fun as a kid playing the original buzzer game.

My daughter had been wanting Operation for a while, but I wasn't sure she'd care much for it, and none of her friends or cousins had the game for her to give it a shot. She's also a huge NBC fan, since she was a little over a year old, so I knew this would be a cool present for her if only for the fact that it's NBC-based. Sure enough, she loves it, and has played it a few times through the day, in-between playing with everything else she got. I'm surprised at how fun this game is too, since I've honestly never played Operation in its regular form- just the giant versions at family arcades and the like. In the chance that you were on the fence about buying this one, it's worth buying for anyone looking for a new take on the classic game, or just any NBC fan you know.

Getting the game set up is simple. First things first though- you're gonna need two AA batteries and a Phillips/cross head screwdriver to put them into the back of the game. 'kinda lame that they weren't included, but most people have two AAs laying around, so it's not too big of a deal. The batteries are needed for the game to recognize when the tweezers or Funatomy parts touch the sizes of the area they're in, and for Oogie to talk and for his eyes to light up. After that's taken care of, you just need to put the Funatomy parts (bugs, snakes, dice, etc.) where they go. Next, you separate the game cards into two decks: Doctor cards and Specialist cards. Shuffle the Specialist ones, and deal them, face up, to the players. The Doctor cards get shuffled and put aside, face down, near the game board. One of the players gets to be the Banker, and their job is to give money to the players that successfully perform operations.

Alright, now for playing the game.

I honestly think the phrase "collectors edition" here is a joke. I bought this for my wife as part of her Christmas presents, and I was thinking I bought a quality version of operation like I remember as a kid.

The board itself was flimsy when we took it out of the package, and while the theme they set is pretty cool, oogie boogie doesnt light up half the time when you hit the metal contacts, and the parts are way too easy to get out of the holes. A three year old with poor motor skills wouldnt have any problem mastering this.

Even though I bought it as a novelty, I expected it to perform just a tiny bit, and after playing two rounds with my wife and her sister, we put it away disappointed.

My friend loves the Nightmare Before Christmas, so he enjoyed receiving this for Christmas even though Operation in general is an easy game to play. My friends and I played this game and it lasted no more than 10 minutes.

Being a huge "Nightmare before Christmas" fan and collector, I was super excited when I saw this. I have "Nightmare before Christmas" versions of Jenga, Uno, and Trivial pursuit. So needless to say, I felt like this was the perfect compliment to my collection of games based on the movie.

My issue is completely and totally with the gameplay. As a few other reviewers mentioned, the game just isn't very challenging at all. Even younger children don't have issues with playing this game with much difficulty at all, which leads to the game play becoming boring rather quickly. I used the game during a Halloween party this year, and we ended up reverting to the original Operation because this version was just too easy. In the original version, to this day I STILL can't get the Charlie Horse without setting off the buzzer, and I'm coming up on 40 years old. While the game shouldn't be impossible, I wish it would've presented more of a challenge.

I gave it three stars for the art and cool factor of the "organs" you can remove. Sadly though, this is is more of a novelty and less of a board game.

My daughter loves The Nightmare Before Christmas and loves learning about the human body, bugs, and icky stuff of that sort. I was originally looking for the classic Operation when I stumbled upon this and had to buy it. My daugther loves it, its a tad easier than I remember Operation being, that may or may not be because I am sure my hand coordination is better than my younger self! However, the only downside is the pieces are kind of cheap plastic too and are bulky and easily picked up. Which is great for my three year old but takes the challenge out of it for mommy and daddy. Its a great product and I am thrilled with my purchase I just feel that once my daughter gets the hang of it in a few weeks it will start to collect dust :)

Purchased for my five year old who enjoys the game.
Fortunately she is to young to realize it does not work as it should. Touching the sides with the tweezers does not always result in it blinking like it should. Like the original, once you play a few times and get a hang of it the game offers no real challenge.

I love playing games and everyone agreed this sounded like a fun blast to the past game, so I ordered it for Christmas. None of us are under 25 by the way and that might be where the problem came in. We all remembered how the operation game of the past was so hard and thought it would still be challenging. The challenge is gone. We all popped the pieces out quickly with the exception of one, which when I hit the side and set it off, I jumped and so did everyone else.. job done. It was fun though just for the conversations it sparked. It was over in 10 minutes. I still think if you have younger kids playing it would be a lot of fun and still challenging. We all agreed the wishbone in the original was the hardest, and there is a piece in this game that is just like that, we all set it off, problem is that is the ONLY one we set off. The colors are great and his mouth lites up green when you bump the edge and he doesn't say the same thing the second time, nice touch. I would buy this again with no problem.
