4.0 out of 5 stars Works OK, light, versatile. Beware error in description.
I have used SD and SmartMedia cards so far (at the same time), and the unit works flawlessly, no loose connections or problems reading the cards.

However, please note that the "microSD (SD adapter included)" description is incorrect, it is NOT included (the package even reads "MicroSD adapter required").

3.0 out of 5 stars Functional, but not pleasant.
It's small, it installs each card as a different drive, includes a utility that labels which drive letter takes which card, and lets you know when a card has been recognized. It has a activity light which isn't very informative, but at least lets you know when the card is being accessed. I especially liked that it doesn't load a bunch of digital media file management...

It has a activity light which isn't very informative, but at least lets you know when the card is being accessed. I especially liked that it doesn't load a bunch of digital media file management bloatware. However, it usually requires some removing and re-inserting and wiggling to get it to recognize SD and MMC cards. Also, as you might expect, it's plastic and feels light and cheap. I have no idea how long it will last.

EDIT 3-2006: Had to uninstall the software that labeled the slots by the media type, because it was buggy and kept crashing explorer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Card Reader, January 3, 2007

I've tried three different card readers, and this is the only one I like using. I only have Compact Flash cards, so that's all I use it for. But The two previous card readers I've used, the pins that read the data were bent and a pain to fix. That's why I bought this card reader. I'm very pleased that it is designed so there is pretty much no chance of bending the pins while inserting your card, so it should continue to work for a very long time. Great buy.

This card reader is blazingly fast. I download LOTS of pictures from my digital SLR camera. Using the Kingston has saved me a significant amount of time waiting for the pictures to move from my camera card to my PC.

Cable that came with the card reader was defective and crashed my computer. Fortunately, I had a spare cable and the reader works fine.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great Reader, March 8, 2007
This review is from: USB 2.0 Hi-speed 15-IN-1 (Retail Package) (Personal Computers)
I have multiple cameras, and one of my favorite features is that this reader can support multiple types of cards plugged in at one time. If you have a SD card and a CF card, both can be inserted and read/written to without having to switch out the cards. Very nice reader for a great price.

The Blue LED is very pleasant to look at.

If you're looking for a media reader I'd seriously recommend this unit. It's small, uses bus power (so no power bricks), doesn't require any drivers, and it's fast thanks to it being a usb 2.0 device. To top it off the price was very affordable, especially for a name brand.

I have owned this item for just over 3 months, and have had no problems at all. Reads the cards just fine, have had no errors or loose fitting slots. Overall for $15 it serves it purpose, and performs well. No complaints.

There is no adaptor for the mini sd card.

As far as I can tell, this reader is everything it is supposed to. It might cost a lot less than the Sandisk multicard reader, but I have no idea what a more expensive model might have to improve on the Kingston. Read and write are blazing fast, limited by my cards themselves rather than the reader.

The Kingston is made of light plastic, true, but I actually view as a positive, making it that much easier to carry around. It is unlikely to survive long in a firestorm or in a vat of sulfuric acid, so unfortunately you'll have to limit its use inside of active volcanoes and car batteries. However, in more ordinary computing environments, you will probably not perceive any difference. It does not look or feel like it is going to fall apart under regular use.

The only oddity is that there seems to be little rhyme or reason in the drive letter mounting order of the drives. For example, on my machine, the bottom left slot (CompactFlash) is the lowest letter (E) and the bottom right one (MemoryStick) is the highest letter (H). This doesn't make too much sense, and there is no way to find out which drive is which until you plug in some media and see which drive activates. I didn't think this was too important, and not worth a full star deduction.
