Doesn't work well with SATA drives,

This review is from: USB 2.0 to SATA IDE (2.5/3.5/5.25") Adapter w/OTB NEW (Electronics)
I was swayed by all the five star reviews and went ahead and bought one of these but my experience with it was extremely disappointing.Whereas all the other reviewers used it for IDE drives i bought mine for use with an SATA drive and the device failed at the job miserably. Firstly, the adapter provided does not provide sufficent power to the SATA drive! When the power connector is connected the drives (i tried it with about 3 SATA and 1 IDE) they all made a clicking (very worrysome) noise but would never get going. Fortunately i have another similar product which I use for an IDE drive. Using this adapter the drives would spin and get going without problem, however that was only the first problem I would encounter :( After getting the SATA drives powered and going I connected the USB cable to the computer. Nothing. After about 15mins of retrying the same configuration over and over I somehow got the windows (XP) to detect the drive. "Whew!", I thought, "problem solved".Wrong!! After a few minutes the drive just disappeared from My Computer. So again another 15 minutes of configuration changes, I got the drive to work used it for a bit. By then it was late and time for sleep. After a long day today of work, I come home, power up my PC, NO USB DRIVE. I start playing around with the configuration again, over an hour this time, but no luck, I would just get a "USB Mass Storage Device" detected but a hard drive would never show in my computer. I've so far given up. That brings me to my frustration I'm feeling now buying this device, shipping it all the way here and having to spend loads of time playing around with it. In closing, don't buy this product if you plan to use it for SATA drives. To make sure the device was functioning i tried it with my IDE drives numerous times and every time it worked without problem. Another point to note is that the device had an IDE adapter that connects directly to IDE drives but for SATA connectivity a SATA cable is needed from this adapter to the hard drive. A similar device that connects directly to the SATA drive like in the case of IDE drives just might function better. I'm about to search for one such now.

An all in one adapter. This works great for a dead laptop that I need to pull data off the hard drive.

Great product if you want to use it with IDE driver, just plug the power and the cables and you are set to go. But don't buy it if you want to use with a SATA drive, have tried for several hours to get it to work, but cannot get the HD to get recognized.
