5.0 out of 5 stars Works great!
My laptop died and I wanted to transfer my data to a new computer. Typical situation. This did the trick quickly and cheaply. Worked perfect.
The one thing I will say is that I wasn't sure if the connector would fit my harddrive. I realized that there was some sort of adapter that was on my HP harddrive. I simply just took it off and it fit perfectly...

I noticed a burning smell in the SATA power cord connection area immediately when I connected it with two SATA hard drives to recover files from, so I was out of luck. The BrilliantStore sent me a replacement free of charge, but the power supply adapter does not work. There is no light in the power supply when I connected it unlike the original one, which in turn burned the connection area in SATA hard drive. The power supply actually says "QC PASS", which is ridiculous because if it works, it should turn on the light on the adapter.

1.0 out of 5 stars You should look for something better., February 17, 2009

This product works with about 30 percent of my drives regardless of where the jumpers are set. No documentation with this unit so take care to plug it in correctly. Email to seller not answered. If you want something like this unit, pay a little extra and get a better one.

4.0 out of 5 stars You get what you get, September 23, 2011
This review is from: USB 2.0 to IDE / SATA Converter Cable (Electronics)
I've bought quite a few of these from Amazon and never had a problem. For those of you saying "I hook it up and nothing happens" that means your drive is probably bad. Same goes for the people who say these only work on 70% of the drives they try. The only time I've had any issue with this device is always because the HDD is too far gone, clicking, or just dead. The AC adapter is flimsy but you normally don't need it, as you can just borrow power from the host computer (if the host is a desktop). I have my own on-site computer repair business and I use these everyday. In fact, I even have an old 250GB SATA hard drive hooked up to my Wii using one of these. Works great on my Mac as well as any version of Windows (98SE, NT4, 2000, XP SP1,SP2,SP3, Vista, 7, 8 Preview). This is worth the 7$.

1.0 out of 5 stars USB works, but power brick is a fire hazard, December 29, 2011

This seems to be a very dangerous item that should not be sold due to fire risk. Although the USB adapter worked perfectly, the power brick began smoking, melting, and smelling like burning. Luckily I was standing right next to it when I heard a loud pop and noticed the now deformed brick was smoking. I unplugged it from the wall immediately. I wouldn't have been surprised if it had caught fire were I not there to unplug it.

If you do decide to purchase this product, please, DO NOT LEAVE IT UNATTENDED while it is plugged in.

great buy. excellent product for the price. not as sleek looking as enclosed external hard drive setups, but way easy to use and doesn't take up nearly as much space, also easy to transport because it comes in a box. install cd is useless, didn't bother to use it, computer automatically detects the new hardware and installs drivers without using the cd. which is great

1.0 out of 5 stars This cable fried my DVD+/-RW drive!, August 30, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: USB 2.0 to IDE / SATA Converter Cable (Electronics)
I plugged this cable into my second DVD+/-RW drive, turned on the power, and within seconds smelled smoke. I immediately unplugged it. I found that it was partly my drive that was smelling like smoke. I then tried that DVD+/RW drive with a second set of cables I had, and was using with a hard drive (that cable was a 'name brand': Cables Unlimited USB-2110 USB 2.0 to IDE and SATA Adapter Cable with Power). The DVD-burning drive had previously worked with that set of cables. The drive no longer works at all thanks to this set.

If you value your hardware, do not buy these!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked Great for My SATA Drive, May 15, 2011
This review is from: USB 2.0 to IDE / SATA Converter Cable (Electronics)
This product worked great and was worth the money. I give it two thumbs up.

I purchased this to transfer files from an old SATA hard drive. I used my own external AC power supply, because some reviews said they had problems using the AC power supply provided. The product worked fine and I transfered the data I needed too.

I then decided to use the AC power supply provided, and it work fine as well. It might be that people having problems didn't have their pin set to "Master Mode" on the hard drive as directed by the one page User's Manual.

2.0 out of 5 stars Power supply failed within first 2 weeks , only used twice, October 29, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: USB 2.0 to IDE / SATA Converter Cable (Electronics)
The USB to Sata/ide cable is great , however the power supply failed the second time I used it which sucked, it had a red light and smelt like a burn. I would have to pay the shipping to exchange it as it did not come with any return label and that is their policy. I guess the price was too good to believe , I am better off just ordering another one as the price was low. I think I will try a different company next time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent, with little problems, December 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: USB 2.0 to IDE / SATA Converter Cable (Electronics)
I was very reluctant to buy this item due to all the back and forth in the reviews. I did end up buying it and decided to write a review for those of you who might be debating buying this, like I did. This is my very first review so I'm very sorry if I'm not thorough enough.

I bought this as a new item(not used) to hook up an old malware infested IDE to my computer as an external data drive, and scan it for rootkits. Actually, as I type, the scanner is running in the background.
What i first noticed was it's poor quality design, which was to be expected at such a low price. The power supply cable is a little flimsy, and the rest of the cables just feel really sensitive. Besides those problems, I have yet to encounter any more.

One of the problems I kept reading about was about how the unit would smoke, burn up, and destroy your hardware. My device has been hooked up for a couple hours and I have had no signs of smoke or anything.
Another problem was missing drivers. Some people mentioned that the driver disk is missing in the box.
THIS IS TRUE! The user guide explains to insert the disk provided to install certain drivers, when in fact no disc are found in the box. However, I am running Vista Home Premium (64bit OS) and it worked instantly on plug in. No disc needed. Simply plug and play.

I CANNOT SAY THE SAME FOR WINDOWS 7. I HAVE NOT TESTED IT.

I believe that was the only complaints people had with the product.
Something that might be going on is people are buying the cheapest priced ones from sellers that could be shipping defective units. This is something that was happening with a different product I bought on Amazon.
In my case, I bought the cable brand new from BestDealUSA.

Overall, I like the product. It's very cheap and gets the job done. Don't expect a high quality made product, but you can expect it to work the way it's supposed to.
I hope I helped!

UPDATE: I've spent hours working on the IDE I mentioned, and still no problems! In fact, I believe I'm done cleaning it all out. This product worked well above my expectations.
