I had to install the SIIG Hide Drive Letter utility (downloaded from their support site) in order to get the card reader to work reliably with Windows 7. Even then the placement of the card readers was poorly thought out as they are all at the bottom of the device and the two SD slots (Micro and regular) must be inserted upside down, I don't have a Sony MS anymore to try that port. The Micro SD card slot requires the Micro SD card be inserted all the way until it clicks in which is beyond the edge of the device so it requires fingernails that many of the users aren't likely to have.

I bought 4 of this SIIG usb 3.0 hub with card reader and none worked with my gigabyte GA-Z68MX-UD2H-B3 !!

I tried different models and brands of USB 3.0 external hard drives and USB 3.0 flash drives so I came to the conclusion the problem could lie with the motherboard's USB 3.0 controller. A quick search on the web returned a whole bunch of users wish similar stability problems. Turns out the latest motherboard manufacturers are all using the cheaper "ETRON J168 USB 3.0 Controller" on their motherboards, which has known bug with many USB 3.0 devices (including this SIIG hub which uses JMICRON USB 3.0 controller).

This SIIG usb 3 hub is an excellent product, don't be discouraged if yours do not work because there is a good chance the problem is caused by inmature usb 3.0 controller on the motherboard, namely ETRON.

If your SIIG USB 3.0 HUB WITH CARD READER does not work you might want to check if your motherboard uses the buggy etron usb 3 chip. As of this writing, etron released driver update version 1.05 but it is still very unstable. I have many usb 3 products such as Partiot USB 3 flash drive, SIIG usb 3 hub, Eagle Tech USB 3 external hard drives and NONE work reliablly with my motherboard's etron usb 3 chip.

I have since purchased a usb 3.0 add on card based on NEC/RENESSA chip and works perfectly fine with this SIIG hub(high transfer speed and all my usb 3 products are detected right away).

I hope you all amazonians will find this review useful and let more buyers know about this problem. Hopefully either ETRON or JMICRON will come out with a fix that allow their products to be compatible but as of 2/7/2012 they are just not playing nice with each other. Your solution is to get NEC USB 3.0 controller add-on card, and this SIIG hub will work perfectly.

I did not take any stars out because this is a known compatibility issue with many motherboard's ETRON chip. Not SIIG's.

I looked at a lot of hubs/readers before I actually picked this one. I googled reviews and I went to the Siig website to find out more info. This hub has high quality construction and is a little heavier in weight than most. The supplied cables and power supply cords are adequately long and of good quality. The blue led is a nice touch. It stays lit all the time and it's not too bright in a dark environment. I stuck 4 of the isolate hemispheres on the bottom to raise the hub a little. The hub comes with small S shaped rubber risers on the bottom to keep the hub from sliding around on a smooth surface. All the ports work fine. I use one of the sandisk usb adapters for my micro cards. The little sd cards are kind of hard to handle. I did install the program to limit the number of drives that display in the my computer window. I'm using windows 7 64bit. With the program installed, the only drives that will display are those that have a device plugged into the hub/card reader. Without installing this program, you will have about 8 additional drive letters show up in the my computer window and you won't know which drive has anything plugged in. The program is a must imo.

I've had the hub for about a month now. It works perfectly for me. I have the usb 3 cable out going to an Iogear usb 3.0 expresscard, which is plugged into my dell precision laptop. This Iogear expresscard is an excellent product. It has an external power supply included. I would recommend the Siig combination usb 3.0/2.0 hub and card reader to my friends. I am very pleased with this product.

I received this hub and immediately liked it a lot. It looks and feels sturdy, has some weight to it and combined with silicone pads stays put. I plugged it in and it was installed without issues on my XP machine. I shut down for the night and the next day could not start my computer at all. I noticed that my case fans were running at a reduced speed and my case power light was on even though the computer was off. I turned off the power supply but to my amazement the fans and lights stayed on. I quickly figured out that the powered hub was back feeding the computer peripherals through the USB port and at the same time interfering with my power up sequence. Once I cut the power to the HUB the computer started fine. I am not sure why I am seeing this behavior, but if I find out that it is caused by my computer somehow I will revise my review.
