Unlike passive extension cables, the USB active extension cables is an active device that buffers the data going in and out to ensure signal always meets the USB electrical and timing specifications. Using passive extension cables can result in timing errors and data loss. Passive cables are not recommended for extending USB beyond the cable length furnished and violate USB specification.
The cable can be used to extend the cable length of any USB 2.0 device. The USB data extension cable acts as a transparent USB hub and buffers all upstream and downstream data traffic. Both low speed and high speed devices.

I use with a 802.11b/g dongle connected to a outdoor 16db yagi. I'm on the G band right now while laying in bed w/laptop.. I'm more affected by atmospheric problems being 100+ meters from a hotspot here in the motor-home. Signal is always good and streaming U Tube no problem.

Attached the 16' cable between my NAS (Network Storage) device and printer. Now all 4 computers on my network can print without leaving a computer on all the time.
Just plugged in the cable a few minutes ago, printed a few items and it is working fine so far. Was a little concerned since this is one of the cheaper active 16' cables, but it is working fine with my printer.
