1.0 out of 5 stars Not Compatible with Garmin GPS Units, January 18, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Having read, from product reviews regarding the Garmin nuvi 1350T, about the importance of obtaining the correct `USB data cable,' I included an order for a `Garmin 1350T USB data cable' when ordering the previously mentioned Garmin unit. The first order of business when setting-up the nuvi 1350T was product registration and software download, so I attempted to connect to a PC running Windows 7 and encountered an error message that, in effect, said "whatever you've connected to the USB port is not recognized .and isn't going to work." After several unsuccessful attempts through device manager to connect with this machine, I moved the operation to a PC running XP Pro. At first, XP saw the device and recognized it as a GPS unit of unknown origin. Then, after running Garmin's updated USB drivers, the XP machine gave me the same response as the Windows 7 machine. Utilizing device manager, I tried rolling back the drivers, uninstalling the drivers, and several different sequences of re-installing drivers while the device was either connected or not connected, all to no avail. Finally, six hours later, having exhausted all options in both the Garmin and Microsoft knowledge base, I tried using the USB cable from my digital camera, a suggestion made by my wife early on. Instantly, XP recognized the USB device as a Garmin GPS unit, identified the model number, and loaded the drivers.

I sent an email to Eforcity explaining this problem, and received the following response:

"Thank you for your recent inquiry with us on Amazon.com.

To return the item back, please fill out the form below, print it and have it attached with your return product to:

P.O. BOX 1368
ARCADIA, CA 91077-1368

**** RETURN FORM ****

Please include all of the following information in the returned package:

1. Invoice number:
2. Recipient's Full Name:
3. Phone Number:
4. Email Address:
5. Item / Order Number(s):
6. Item(s) Received:
7. Brief Reason for Return:

Please state whether you would like a refund or replacement. Once we receive your return item(s), we will process your order within 2-3 business days. You will be notified through email on the status of your exchange/refund."

There was no `form' attached.

So my advice is: Order the proper USB cable from Garmin or Nikon or other company more familiar with the requirements for a `data cable' than Eforcity..

I purchased this cable for my Garmin Nuvi and it was much less expensive and worked great! My only disappointment was when I got to Garmin's website and realized how expensive the map updates were! I wish I would have done that first.

This product is perfect for the downloads from th ecomputer.
I was most impressed with the lenght of the cable. Allows me to plug it in and set it out of the way
while the data downloaded.

Those of us who have gone through this before with older Nuvis have figured this out, but it does not function as the original charger. It is an inexpensive replacement, but it will only charge if you first turn the Garmin on in diagnostic mode then plug this in. After that go back to normal view and it works great. A bit of a hassle but a very inexpensive solution.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cable works (but didn't need because Garmin came with a cable), July 13, 2011

I purchased this cable when I ordered a Garmin 1350LMT. The reviews indicated the unit did not come with a cable to do internet based updated. To my surprise it turns out the Garmin unit did come with its own cable. Oh well! I'll keep the standalone cable just in case. It was only a few dollars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than Garmins, June 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: USB Cable for Garmin GPS Units (Electronics)
I bought this for my older 255Nuvi. The price was one third what Garmin wanted and shipping was most of that. I received it in 3 days and it worked well. I recently purchased, after much research, the garmin 1300LM which came with a cable for connecting to the computer. The Garmin cable was short and had a very thin cable. I decided to use this old generic cable and had no problems with the downloads. From other reviews on the newer unit I believe the cable made the difference in speed on the download. Get it.....you'll like it.
