What a great "gadget"! I needed something to connect two computers to a single printer (USB-to-USB), and voila, this data switch resolved my issue perfectly.

I looked at a competing product housed in plastic, but opted instead for this all-steel case (and I'm glad I did). Connections were a snap (three USB printer cables...duh!), and the sturdy click-switch leaves no doubt as to which printer is being routed through to the printer.

A surprising find: given the foibles of Windows Vista, I counted on having the operating system "re-install" the printer driver every time I flipped the switch on the box back and forth to the two computers. Not so. Miraculously, each computer can still access this USB printer, even though the actual connection is "broken" each time the box is switched to allow the "other" computer to have access. Did that make sense?

Sturdy, stable, and simple, this product is recommended without reservation!

Not as advertised.. Not the seller's fault, he did his level best to satisfy his customer.. As a Mechanical Engineer, this "circuit board" switch from China is of a defective design!.. Not suitable for this, or any other application!

Got this switch to share my G15 keyboard with a XIM3 keyboard/mouse adapter for the Xbox 360. The device supports one USB client (like a keyboard, a mouse, etc...) and two hosts (computers). Since only one host can share a device at a time, the switch lets one choose which host to can communicate with the shared device. I am currently connecting my mouse to my G15 keyboard which is being shared with the switch. This lets me share both my keyboard and my mouse without having to use an external USB hub or a different type of switch.

The build quality of this switch is very good. The case feels heavy and the knob clicks into place very easily. After making sure it worked, I went ahead and took it apart. After seeing the insides, I can confirm that it's a passive switch with no circuitry in it. It's literally two ports going into a switch going to a third port. The good thing about this is that it won't interfere with any of the devices connected to it. The bad thing is that it adds length to the cables, which could be a problem if the total length of the connections is longer than what the USB spec supports. Another issue with it being passive is that flipping the switch causes the device to be unplugged from one computer and plugged in to the other one. This takes a few seconds on some operating systems. It's not a big problem, but it can be annoying to some people if they want to constantly switch back and forth from computer to computer.

Keep in mind that it doesn't come with any cables, so you'll have to buy those separately. I bought a pair of Amazon Basics A to B USB cables, and everything is working perfectly fine.

Overall, great switch and would definitely buy again. In fact, I might buy a 1-to-4 switch soon.
