WASTE,

This review is from: USB 2.0 Ethernet 10/100 Network LAN RJ45 Adapter (Electronics)
This purchase is a waste. The seller does not indicate that a driver has to be installed. What is worse is that a special program is needed to open the driver if one is using windows XP.

Mixed Bag, works if you get the right one.,
This review is from: USB 2.0 Ethernet 10/100 Network LAN RJ45 Adapter (Electronics)
The problem with these things are they all look alike, but there are several different chipsets out there.
My first order of these came from HDE, and used the DM9601 chip. Worked great, automatically detected by Debian and OpenBSD. Needed drivers for windows (untested). Had no problems on the BSD box, so I decided to order more. My second order came from eforcity. These....weren't so great. They used a fullwin FY-618SM chip which again required drivers in Windows (untested), and wasn't recognized by either Debian or OpenBSD. Searching amazon, I'm also coming across an "Agiler" version which physically looks identical. I have no idea how that one stacks up. So Buy at your own risk. (At least they're cheap)

I got 2 of these ethernet to usb adapters from HDE. They came very fast, in a few days. When I plugged them in, however, they did not work on my Pentium II IBM Thinkpads running on Ubuntu Linux 6.06. Oddly enough, I had an Airlink USB Ethernet Adapter that did. The return policy is not good for these, because the shipping costs more than the unit and shipping is not refundable in either direction. I was going to consign them to my spare parts pile for later experiments, but I found something interesting happened. The ethernet cable was recognized when I upgraded the Thinkpads to either 8.10 or 8.04 Ubuntu! They work smoothly on these operating systems and are "plug and play" (at least when installed before booting them up). My only concern is that when I unplug them that they are slightly hot, but so far they have not failed to function and I have done a fair amount of web surfing and downloading through them.

I wish I knew before Normally the plug adaptors work for every type of computers, windows or macs It should be said in the description I spent a few hours reading blogs and downloading drivers, but failed. This one does not work on mac so I returned it to the seller cmple and I asked for a refund of the product plus the cost to ship it back. I hope I will get a refund

No driver support for this item!!!,

As far as I'm concerned, these are best used as shims rather than an Ethernet device. Product did not include a CD with Windows drivers, nor have I been able to find any suitable drivers online.

Didn't work for me,
This review is from: USB 2.0 Ethernet 10/100 Network LAN RJ45 Adapter (Electronics)
The adapter does get hot, not hot enough to burn you but it makes you think about your safety when you got to bed at night. AND that is with it not even working I could never get it to work with my dell running windows XP. Also the software was never certified by windows.

This is a cheap way to connect an Ethernet cable into a USB port.
1) This item is made in China and the package looks like something you find in a 99 cent store, so there is no costumer service. 2) The driver disc that comes with this adapter and is needed to be installed before your computer recognizes the device is a MINI-DISC, not the standard size compact disc so be prepared for that. 3) This adapter DOES work just fine for me on my Sony Vaio Laptop that has no Ethernet connection ports, only two USB ports so I received exactly what I wanted and paid about $3.50 + S&H for. Caution: My only set back with this adapter is that it gets extremely hot. Not hot enough to burn you on contact but it is uncomfortably hot and I would not leave it plugged in longer than I needed to.

Ordered this to hard wire my Son's Wii. No dice - doesn't claim to work for this application - I knew I was taking a chance to save a few bucks... It didn't work out...Least it was cheap!

I was really suprized how well this adapter works. With Plug and Play, my XP laptop had no trouble finding and configuring it. I was up and running in 2 minutes, and the price was right.

This works great as a back-up or a test connector. You could also use it as a primary network adapter if you needed to.
