Editorial Reviews

Review

Dr. Paetzel and Dr. Talanow s book, USMLEHelp Step 2 CS, provides a successful attempt at filling this void. Their effort is outstanding in all aspects of the book. It is a quick read for an AMG, and a helpful guide for the FMG preparing for the USMLE Step 2 CS. My favorites are their initial plan of attack and the challenges they present. These chapters are clearly written and effectively answer questions that confuses many. Speaking with Dr. Paetzel, I came to hear the concept that holds true for all of their books: Simple, intensive, quality, and a lot of practice. Dr. Paetzel had struggled with the USMLEs herself. She took courses and prepared herself well, but there was never a book that really suited the student. A patient doesn t come to you and say, I have diabetes mellitus you tell me my symptoms. So one day, many years ago, I started my own, hand-written book. This book was digitally transcribed and it is what you can buy on their website, www.usmlehelp.com. The book can basically be separated into two parts: Theory and Practical. The first 60 pages or so reminds the reader what they have to remember in theory. The second half is practice, practice, practice, Dr. Paetzel says. However, she emphasized how important it is to review the cases many times. The 40 cases that are included in the second half of the book are phenomenal. It gears the reader to really remember and think about what he or she should be doing. No matter if the reader is an AMG or FMG, it s certainly worth reading. You can t teach someone to be an average-Joe American. We try, however, to help people find their own path by telling them what is vital for American culture. Dr. Paetzel is an American-born, foreign medical graduate. I know what differences in culture there are. I ve been there. I think that s what helps me understand what people are going through. But, she said, she needed more input more than just her own. That s where the experience notes come in, she --http://www.sanepr.com/USMLEHelp-Step-2-CS-Just-the-facts-Can-that-really-be-true_15170.cfm

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth its weight in gold!, June 5, 2007
This review is from: USMLE Help Step 2 CS (Spiral-bound)
I needed this book and 2 weeks of following their instructions to pass this exam. I am an AMG, got this book, did what they said, and Voila! I passed. If you really do what they say, I have no doubt you will pass too. I am externing now, and I have gone back to this book, because I see that physical examinations are really done like that!!!! It's a good refresher, even now. Excellent book, well worth the price.

My wife is an IMG, and she used this book too. I think she benefited even more from it because she learned what to do, what to say (She also did USMLEHelp online sound courses which helped her tremendously), and how to say it. They talk about the exam in the first 60 or so pages, and then it's COMPLETE physical exam encounters the rest of the way.

It's definitely worth the price, and I would suggest this book to anyone who is taking this exam - if you're an AMG or an IMG.

I have also bought their CCS and CK books. Hey, I'm a fan, what can I say? But they are all written for the student in mind, and they are all really good. Between me and my wife, we had just about bought every book that's out there for the exams, and this is really the best of the bunch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best USMLE Step 2 CS book, June 5, 2007
This review is from: USMLE Help Step 2 CS (Spiral-bound)
I used several books for USMLE Step 2 CS preparation and this is by far the best book. I can highly recommend it - not only because I passed the exam thanks to it but also because it is easy and fun to read. This is a unique and excellent preparation book for the USMLE step 2 CS examination. Especially helpful for IMG, however also recommended for american graduates. It is very easy to read and covers everything from initial "plan of attack" for the preparation to valuables advises for the examinee during the exam.
