This is a very good book. I've spent money on Kaplan, Crush, First Aid etc and can say-this is (by far) my go-to one. It focuses more on diagnosis/treatment and doesn't have a lot of unrelated trivia, it just tells you what the committees recommend (like ACOG, ADA, etc). I did not find this book useful at all. It was all they same as first aid, which I do not recommend either, both books are too simple for this kind of test, good luck to you

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommend, March 15, 2009
This review is from: USMLE Step 3 Triage: An Effective, No-nonsense Review (Paperback)
It has some questions in the text but their actual practice questions-and there's a free website with more questions (I don't think you even have to buy the book for the website). Seems like the important subjects are outlined a lot more, too (concise and relevant goes a long way in test prep). Personally, I want a book that takes the content for the test, distills it to what is tested the most, and gives a solid review. Triage does that better than any of the others. Take it from someone that knows (and spent too much finding out), this book is really very impressive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book for Step 3!, September 20, 2008
This review is from: USMLE Step 3 Triage: An Effective, No-nonsense Review (Paperback)
I am very impressed with this book. Its got full color which really helps looking at figures, actual accurate sample questions throughout the text, a free website with more free questions, and obviously prioritizes what's important. For example diabetes, this book has a longer section on diabetes than on testicular cancer-that's the way it should be! Another thing I like is that it sites the medical groups that make guidelines in important areas. Not research, but guidelines which is what the committee has to use to make the test. It also has room for taking notes in the margin which was a pet peeve of mine with other books. I'd recommend getting this to study from but it'll also be very handy for reference after the test. Good luck!

4.0 out of 5 stars Has its pros and cons.., June 15, 2009
This review is from: USMLE Step 3 Triage: An Effective, No-nonsense Review (Paperback)
When I first picked up this book i was impressed but the quality of print. It is printed very sturdy as not to rip which was a plus right off the bat. The price was very right for my first impression, I can say this with no hesitation. As I perused the book further, I found it missing some of the KEY information that is tested on step 3. I find it a great book if you need an adjunct book for guidelines, the author has done a very good job at that, however, to answer the board favorite question, what is the next best test, most accurate step etc. it does not do a great job at all. It is decent for theory of high yield topics, like I said, as an adjunct to another source, or for night time light reading, however it would not be good as a primary source. I rank it higher than First aid, but for me, Master the Boards was a more worthwhile investment. Just my two cents!

4.0 out of 5 stars Step 3 Triage, January 29, 2009
This review is from: USMLE Step 3 Triage: An Effective, No-nonsense Review (Paperback)
very concise, written with a Family Medicine background in mind. Deals with the common concepts likely to be found on the Step 3 of the USMLE. Perfect for review ONLY after having studied larger texts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Resource, December 29, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: USMLE Step 3 Triage: An Effective, No-nonsense Review (Paperback)
It's often time consuming and cumbersome to read these reviews so I figured I'd give this review as an outline:

- First off - I think that the most important factor of a board review book is an easy-to-follow and easy-to-read format. This book has it simple and concise.
- Bolded key words are used in good taste. Not bolding every other word like some resources.
- Questions are thought-provoking and interspersed within the chapters making it a good break from reading. Also has a good number of questions available online that add to your studying.
- Very organized and CONSISTENT format throughout the book. Symptoms - Diagnosis - Treatment. Very no-nonsense as the name states.
- Helpful tables throughout the book make studying more efficient.
- Good color formatting and high quality pictures. The derm section has phenomenal pictures that help grasp the concepts.
- Well bound book. Positive and negative here because it is a pretty heavy monster to carry around!

All-in-all a solid book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as everyone says, April 5, 2011

This review is from: USMLE Step 3 Triage: An Effective, No-nonsense Review (Paperback)
I bought this book based on reviews on Amazon. I was disappointed.

I finished this book a few months ago while studying for Step 3. I had to finish it as once I start a read, I must complete it. It didn't take too long, but at the end I didn't feel like I learned anything. It was a very basic review book, missing a LOT of key information. If I remember correctly, there were actually a few mistakes in this book compared to literature.

I am currently doing the UWORLD Qbank and Kaplan MTB, both of which are much more informative and precise.

In the end, get this if you are bored. While it looks pretty with its pictures and nice thick paper, its the content which matters, and Triage severely lacks it.

Good luck to all you docs!
