USS Lexington (CV-16) was the 2d carrier of that name in WW2. "Lady Lex" was one of 24 Essex class carriers. This one can be found in Corpus Christi TX. Since this carrier was modified post WW2 with an angled deck & jet fighters, there is a lot of information to squeeze into the 80 pages.

32 of the pages are in color, the b&w photos from WW2 are for the most part good, some very good. 4 pages of color line drawings show all of the various planes that flew off her deck - Hellcat, Dauntless, Fury, Skyhawk to name a few. 2 color pages show the ships camouflage scheme.

Great book for modelers, I'd absolutely recommend it if you've ever visited or served on an Essex class carrier. This book is also an excellent purchase if you've ever toured one of the museums (Hornet is in Alameda CA, Intrepid in NY City, Yorktown in Mount Pleasant SC). If you have an interest in naval ships, history or ever served on one of the carriers, this is also a great photo essay on the Lexington.

As with most books by Squadron, this is a first-class reference. Numerous excellent photos provide reference to build an accurate representation of the Lex in straight deck, angle deck or stripped of armament as an AVT. The book includes paint schemes for the ship itself as well as aircraft deployed upon it during each era. There are detailed photos/illustrations of the gun tubs/weapons, cats/arrest gear, island and comm/fire control/radar structures. Several photos of the interior compartments such as hanger deck, bridge and engineering spaces are included. This book would be a very useful tool for anyone preparing to build a model of a Hancock Class and especially the Lexington. Although a number of photos and illustrations are b/w, the majority are color. Excellent as a painting guide.
