Product Description

The patented BlastMatch generates a stream of super heated sparks literally three times the heat of a standard match. You can easily light any material (wood, paper, bark, cloth, or man-made fire starting tinder) that a match will ignite. Best of all, you can accurately aim the sparks to ignite a roaring fire in all weather conditions and the BlastMatch will last a thousand strikes. If your BlastMatch becomes wet, simply wipe it off and it is ready for use. In combination with Ultimate Survival Technologies' WetFire Tinder, an all weather starting tinder, you can start a fire even in the rain.At the heart of the BlastMatch is a custom bar of high performance flint material. Spring loaded for compactness, the flint bar also rotates 360 degrees to help prevent uneven wear. A carbide striker built into the striker button is set at the perfect angle for maximum sparking-making it easy for you to start a fire. The BlastMatch is also perfectly safe. To prevent accidental ignition the unique design requires you to press the thumb button in order to engage the striker mechanism. I have to admit with the casing it is a little heavier on the lanyard around the neck, but tuck it into your bra while still using the lanyard and it is easy to carry and always have with you. Yes this gives you high quality sparks and any cloth or fine tinder will start. Just have to get the knack of how apply enough pressure to it and on the proper side to get the sparks to work. But I've lit fires with it. I like how I can use one hand for the fire starter, and cup my other hand around the kindling to keep the wind away. Sometimes I think I need sun glasses to use it because the spark are so bright. I recommend this, it is larger than most, it has it's own case, you can use one hand, and it's easy to use. I've used most the others out there, and I like this one best. But I still save the others in various places in case of emergencies. Highly recommended!

Wowwwww. I sure wish I had this as a Boy Scout a long time ago. 'BLASTmatch' isn't the word--- maybe Flamethrower fits better. I'm not a Doomsday Prepper... But, I've outfitted my truck to be able to calmly get in and go in case of a Hurricane, Tornado, Snow, etc.. Just the basic stuff; spare clothes, blankets, sleeping bag, water, a little food, etc. Also, I have some water-proof matches and I saw this and ordered it to carry too.

Wow! A little torch doesn't have a whole lot on this. At first, I couldn't get it to work, then, I read the instructions... and almost set my couch on fire, really. I took it outside and tested it on a little bench just to see how it works. Just two or three presses burned the paint and left a black spot.

For sure, you need to know how to make a fire from scratch in an emergency and with a flint/steel. For me, I'm carrying a flint/steel, fireproof matches and this. If whatever your working with is even slightly flammable--- this will start a fire.

It's light, not much bigger than a cigarette lighter, you can carry it in your pocket... and it creates massive intense shower of hot sparks. I honestly think it should be GI issue.

Not only great for camping, but I keep these in my car survival kit, as well as my hurricane supply kit. I place one of these in a coffee can of fire tabs, steel wool, freyed cotton to catch the sparks, some short waxed cardboard strips and a survival candle, and am prepared for both fire starting and a little light and heat. One of these "kits" are part of my auto, camping anad emergency supply kits because the Blastmatch can always be counted on to produce enough hot sparks to get things going.

I chose this rating because of my success of using it in the field. The first time out,I found a decent sized flat rock I took out of a nearby stream. This would allow me to get a good thrust to get some hot sparks to ignite my choice of fire-starter-Cotton lubricated with vaseline, extra fine kindling, and tinder I brought with me(wood chips).Got it going right away, but didn't have nearly enough extra fine kindling or grass to get a good flame first. In my opinion."enough" means a few big handfuls of it.Well.it went out, plus it started to get dark, and I extinguished the little fire I had.Second time, there was a foot of snow on the ground and no hard surface to use the striker.Luckily,I had a 6" length of a 2"x 4" lumber piece in my pack I put there to make kindling.(batoning it into strips).I used a package of "Wet-Fire"dried ,Foxtail Grass",and rotted wood dust. That worked great! Because of the limitations of needing a hard surface to strike on,I think it's somewhat useless.A couple inches of snow or more, forget about it.

I bought a couple of these for my bug out bag. You cant have too many ways to make fire and the fact that these are able to be used one handed made them an easy choice as one option.

It takes a few times to get used to it but you eventually get the hang of it. Also, depending on what you're trying to get started, you can't help but hit the pile of leaves/cardboard/etc and mess it up. I think the concept is there but it has a little ways to go. A pistol grip fire starter would be a good idea so that you don't have to use the ground in order to get the force to scrape the tinder.

Metal Tip broke too easily. I'm surprised it broke so easily because Blastmatch is name-brand. Not 100% recommend for any survival situation.

The metal scraper separated from the plastic housing after only about 100 strikes. I wouldn't recommend this device, unless you only have one hand.
