Product Description

The patented StrikeForce is an exceptional all-weather flint based fire starting system. The system offers you an all-in-one compact, durable package, with a special alloy flint bar and hardened steel striker. When you scrape the striker down the high performance flint material you generate a spark three times as hot as a standard match which will easily ignite any dry tinder material, or you can use WetFire tinder which burns at more than 1,300 degrees. You won't find a better non-toxic, odorless tinder that actually burns longer when wet. When conditions are at their worst you can count on StrikeForce to make you a warming fire. It also is a safe and easy lighter for your backpacking stoves or barbecues.

Please be aware that the product line from Ultimate Survival Technologies from WA was recently sold to Revere Supply Company in FL. One of the first things they appear to have done is to start modifying perfectly good products in order to save a buck. This is clearly evident with the StrikeForce firestarter. While the blister pack outline shows how big the firesteel used to be, it has now been shortened a half-inch or more. I own the older product and have compared it to the newer offering in the store, where the old stock was hanging with the new stock. Also, in some cases they used to include a cube of their WetFire tinder for practice -- now they no longer do so. Between this and Revere Supply's handling of customer service, I cannot in good faith recommend this newer version of the product.

And the new owners of the Strikeforce name hit the "magic money-maker shrink button" repeatedly. I think I know why they did it too. Guys like Dave Cantebury, Les Stroud and Mykel "Hawke" Pierce buy, use, and endorse the thing on TV, Youtube etc. and sales take off.
The accounting dept. steps in and cuts corners on everything imaginable just to make a few cents on the dollar....product quality sinks to the bottom.

Just as I had read, the once excellent Strikeforce quality has hit the suck tank because some idgit in FL. decides to practice "economics"....you know the "print more money anyway so I can play hoops" version....

The small chunky ferro strikes well, but not as hot as Firesteel.com.

I haven't checked it for water resistance yet. I'm not worried about much else on this product because I won't be buying another UST ANYTHING, Blastmatch, nothing, unless I can mod the hell out of it to get my "spark on"!

You need SIZE for ferros to last longer. No fault on Amazon, just one more reason to shop around before you "buy American".

This is a great fire starter. I have been using the same one for around 10 years and have had no problems with it. It has a small compartment in the handle which has fire starting tabs in it. It is not a small fire starter but it is large enough to hold on to even with gloved hands. I have used this numerous times to teach others how to start a fire with a ferrocerium rod and still have plenty of rod left for years of fire starting to come. The striker is robust and the handle is large enough to hold on to. It works well to start canister stoves, liquid fuel stoves, and alcohol stoves as well. There are smaller and lighter ones out there that may work just as good, but they are by no means better. This is a good fire starting tool to have especially if you want to practice a lot to get your technique down. Highly recommended.

Let me say that I have only had this fire starter for about a week so how rugged it is, or how well it will stand up to adverse conditions I obviously can't say. I can say however, that it appears to be extremely well made - the capsule is 1/8 inch thick. The material too is heavy plastic that surely will last a long time. I have many fire starters including the Blast Match, Sparkie, Swiss Army Fire Starter, Solo Scientific Aurora(formerly my favorite), Doan Magnesium, Bear Grylls, and the really neat Exotac XL (tiniest for carrying). Yes I know, quite a collection but it appears to have developed into a hobby of mine. Anyway, as far as starting fires, my newest one, the Strike Force is without a doubt the pick of the litter. The best. By best I mean this one throws the most sparks AND the strike produces more burning material that "stays burning" the longest. Some fire starters throw sparks but don't appear to throw off many particles of burning material and these are the things that ignite the fire. Now I'll tell you, I'm not a long distance hiker so size to me doesn't matter - just fire starting. For those who are long distance hikers I would most definitely try the Aurora by Solo Scientific or even the Exotac XL. In some people's opinion the Exotac (by far the smallest and lightest fire starter) is only a backup fire starter. Although it is a little bit harder to start fires with but also does a nice job if you get the conditions right. The dimensions of the Strike Force are: 5" length x 1.5" width x 1" thick. Large by some standards but it includes a built-in watertite compartment to store a couple cotton pads for tinder. A nice feature shared also by the Bear Grylls starter. All in all the Strike Force is a great product with the only down side (to some) being its rather large size. But if you need to start a fire in the tough places, this one is for you!

These are one of the best firesteels out there. I bought a variety of them, and this one performs great. Of all the units I purchased, only the Light My Fire ARMY model compares with this unit for ease of use, and mega amounts of sparks. The Aurora unit throws plenty of sparks - if you use a steel from the Light My Fire unit that is. The Aurora unit has a tiny little blade to strike with. Try using the Aurora in the dark.. I did, and it didn't work out too well it was a real struggle to use under dark conditions. The UST Strike Force is EASY to use, and so is the LMF ARMY model. The Aurora has a nice waterproof housing, but you need to add a good steel to it and then it will work a LOT better. Hope this helps!
