Product Description

Tens and tens of thousands of people just like you have successfully used Uber Goop liquid PVC to coat their damaged dishwasher racks waterproofing them and preventing further deterioration. Plastic tine caps and Uber Goop also repair damaged rack tines and protect new racks. Vinyl tine caps have the added benefit of protecting dishes from rust stains and chipping. With proper prep, Uber Goop helps extend the life of your dishwasher racks saving you the cost of buying new ones at $60-$100 each. Uber Goop liquid pvc comes in 5 colors (White, lt. blue, lt. grey, dark grey and black) so customers can match it to the color of their dishwasher racks. Easy paint on application and dries fast. FYI: Uber Goop can be used to coat any wire product (except electrical wiring or sheet metal) where repairs are needed or it needs protecting from the elements. People use it on coated chain link fences too.

I also used the Goop to repair a few very badly rusted spots on the rack.

New racks cost an arm and a leg. Our dishwasher is over 10 years old, but does a great job - and we don't want to replace it until it stops working. We put several thin coats on the worst spots and then let it dry overnight. All the repairs have held up - and no more rust spots on the dishes. The caps are great, just pop them over the ends and you're done.

I was skeptical about Uber Goop. Come on, the name itself sounds like a gimmick! But, out of curiosity, I went ahead and ordered it. When I arrived I put on the latex blue glove that accompanied the goop and went to work on my dishwasher basket. I put a drop in each cap and stuck it on each basket wire top. Then I put some goop directly on other worn spots on the basket. I let it dry overnight and ran the dishwasher the next day. Nothing came off or peeled away. It's now been more than a month and none of the repair areas are peeling, cracking or pulling away. And I run my dishwasher every night...hey, what can I say, I'm a guy. Why do dishes by hand when I have a huge device powered by a motor. The stuff really works! But caution. If you have a large amount of repairs, you may want to buy a couple of the goop bottles. It does start to thicken during the repair project. But I repaired about 30 tops and maybe 10 worn spots elsewhere before the bottle became unusable. Good stuff.
******* UPDATE******
It's been three years and that stuff is still holding strong in the dishwasher. I'm about to get more Uber Goop to touch up other areas of the dishwasher rack. This has saved me hundreds of dollars since I've not had to replace the rack!

I decided to try uber goop based on other reviews of the product. Since reviews were generally very high, I had high expectations which have been met.

I'll start with the con (why it lost 1 star). The product dries extremely fast, leaving less than 30 seconds (if that) working time. Although a fast drying time is nice for certain situations, this product could benefit from additional workability, say 2 minutes would be nice. The reason the fast drying time is a con is because it is difficult to achieve a smooth finish so quickly. If you buy this product keep in mind that the best way to get a smooth finish is to give three even brush strokes then STOP. Even if the first coat doesn't cover everything it is better to stop and wait 20 minutes (instructions say 1 hour, but it was completely dry after 20 for me) and apply a second coat than trying to make the first one look good. If you keep brushing past 3 strokes, then the product starts to clump up and looks like a gloppy mess on the next couple coats.

Otherwise, the product is very effective, and since I really don't care what it looks like I didn't go back to try and fix the lumpy parts. Now for the pros, the product dries into a very tough rubber-like polymer. It's almost like a semi-soft epoxy finish once fully cured, giving confidence that it will last (only time will tell for sure). All the caps are fixed on very well; the product works excellent as an adhesive for the caps. The caps are very easy to apply, one drop into the cap while squeezing it then slide it on and spin a few times is the way I found works best (the instructions say to paint the prong but I like this method better, feels more secure).

So, to sum up, repairing prongs are easy with the caps.

Works great! Easy to apply and use. Rack looks new again. Can't wait to test how long it will last. Stuff dries pretty quickly so you need to work fast as you apply it. Fast delivery and came packaged in a unique protective "toilet paper like" spindle package. Bought a used dishwasher and with this repair kit, I saved over at least $200 doing my own refurbishment.

The repair kit arrived quickly. I only just completed the repairs a few days ago, and only run the machine once since, but everything seems to be holding up ok.

One thing I noticed is that the little rubber caps are quite sticky when sliding dishes into the slots on the rack, compared to the original tine tips, but that will probably go away after a while.

UPDATE June 2011: It has been several years since completing the repair, the replacement rubber tips are holding up well. Our dishwasher is used regularly, and I believe these replacement tips are holding up better than the original.

My dishwasher racks look like new. Didn't take long to use the repair product (kinda like applying fingernail polish). Putting a drop of vinyl repair in each cap like directions said went fast after a couple. They will never come off rack during wash cycle. You may want to wear a rubber glove on hand sqeezing cap (as you put a drop in it & let go & it 'sucks' drop of vinyl repair into cap). That was a little messy on fingers. I'm happy with product. Saved me alot of money instead of replacing racks.

This product has far too short a working life. I had my racks prepared and ready before opening the bottle, and I am a very fast worker, but I still lost half the bottle due to it setting up before I could apply it all. A far better product is the one from Plasti Dip.
