Product Description

Requires the Real Tone Rocksmith Cable to be able to play the Beta and/or game.

Introducing Rocksmith, the best-selling music video game that allows you to plug any real guitar or bass into your Windows PC, and learn while you play.

Nothing plastic, nothing fake, just the most authentic guitar experience in music gaming. By plugging into your PC, you’ll develop real skills and real styles while playing absolutely real music.

Featuring gameplay that automatically adjusts to your personal ability, and innovative game design that makes playing music visually intuitive, Rocksmith will engage experienced musicians as well as those who have never picked up a guitar in their life.

Unlock mini-games to hone specific skills. You’ll also be able to choose from a large catalog of songs in different styles. You’ll experience it all with an honest-to-goodness guitar or bass. Nothing compares to playing a real instrument... Except playing Rocksmith.

Key Features:

When we say “any” guitar we mean any guitar.
Whether it’s the six-string guitar or bass guitar sitting in your attic, your cherished faithful steed or the guitar you have yet to buy, Rocksmith lets you plug any guitar into your PC. As long as your guitar has a 1/4" output jack, you can play. No output jack on your guitar? Then head on down to your local music shop, get an inexpensive pickup, and problem solved!

Comprehensive bass support.
Bass arrangements have been added to all of Rocksmith’s tracks. Not only can you play the bass part of the song, but bassists of any experience can also improve their skills, like two-finger plucking, slapping, and popping, with dedicated Bass Technique challenges, tutorial videos, and mini-games. You can even use your six-string guitar to emulate a four-string bass! Tracking your progress has never been easier, with your bass progression tracked separately from guitar.

Difficulty settings adapt to your ability.
You love a challenge, but hate being overwhelmed. Rocksmith understands this and knows exactly how far to push to keep you entertained and addicted – no matter if you’re learning guitar or bass. With dozens of difficulty levels, you’ll automatically progress from single notes to complex chords and techniques without ever getting in over your head.

Get plugged in.
Optional 1/4"-to-USB cable (additional purchase required) allows users to plug any real guitar or bass with a 1/4" output jack directly into their PC. Developed exclusively for Rocksmith, this cable converts the guitar and bass signal from analog to digital, and allows it to be recognized by your PC. Please note the USB cable is NOT included with this digital download software copy. The CD-ROM version of this game, which includes the USB cable can be purchased here.

Lots of music. Lots of styles.
One of the most satisfying moments for any guitar or bass player is hearing yourself play your favorite song for the first time. Rocksmith has amassed an amazing library of songs from different genres, allowing you to experience that moment first hand. Visit to view the up-to-date track list.

Play songs instead of just learning them.
You want to play new songs, but you don’t want to labor through tablature or cringe through poorly produced videos. No problem. Rocksmith will not only present you with new songs, but will also challenge you to step away from the notes on the screen and play songs by memory! Imagine that... A video game that’ll get you stage-ready.

Requires Steam Client to activate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything you could wish for and more!!! November 15, 2012

I have read the other reviews on here about Rocksmith. The poor reviews are based on the fact that you have to install Steam (a Digital Rights Distributor) and that the download takes too long. If you have a fast connection (20mb or more) the download is not bad. Took around 2 hours on my 40mb connection. If you are going to review something stick to what you are reviewing! Ubisoft did not create Steam they only use them as a distribution point because too many people steal their software.

Now on to the review... AMAZING!!! I have the game/edusoft for the PS3. I liked it so much I bought it for the PC. Yes, I could do all of this on my own by d/l tabs and and practice scales... etc. But Rocksmith takes a different approach. It gets you playing music from the start with a scoring system. You can track your progress and actually learn the songs. I found myself playing real air guitar when Nirvana Breed came on. The guitarcade actually makes repetitive practice fun and you cant wait to try again to beat your last score instead of thinking I am tired of doing scales. It covers the basics like Scales, Tremelos, Chords, Fret location, Harmonics Hammer ons and Pull offs. I have been playing for a couple of years now and I have learned more in the last 6 months with Rocksmith than the first year and a half playing. I cannot give it 6 stars so I have to give it 5.

The DLC (Downloadable Content) is pretty extensive and not very expensive considering you are learning a lot from it. Try and walk into a music shop and ask them to teach you a song for 2.99. or 3 songs for 7.99. To get some of the inside stuff use youtube to find special fingering (I can use "Don't fear the reaper" as an example. If you try to play it how Rocksmith shows you end up with a pile of fingers on the floor.

5.0 out of 5 stars You can add this to your Steam Collection January 4, 2013

Let me begin with this:

I was considering buying this item on Steam due to the Holiday sale event they have going on. It was already on sale on Steam on when I decided to come check it out in Amazon. The version here is way cheaper than the one in Steam. I was reluctant to buy the game from Amazon because I also wanted to buy some DLC's to learn how to play additional songs to those that were included in the game. I took the risk of buying it here and it paid off!!! After buying it, I added the product key to my Steam collection and it worked perfectly! So, not only was I able to buy this amazing game at the excellent price that Amazon offers it, but I was also able to activate it on Steam and therefore I can also save when buying the DLC's I would like to get! I recommend everyone to buy this product as there is no way you will lose your money!

By making me "play a video game", Rocksmith is succeeding in the fulfillment of a lifetime dream- to actually play a guitar! My son (30) is pretty proud of his old man (51) for picking up and playing. It's also providing a valuable bonding tool for my youngest child (19). We play together often. Thanks rocksmith for a real game changer!!!

I purchased Rocksmith for the XBOX 360. Having the real tone cable, I decided to pick up the PC version as well to be able to play Rocksmith if I'm on the road or to not take up the TV (what also helped me decision was that the PC version was less than $10 when I bought it). I will review the Rocksmith game as well as compare my experience with the XBOX console version and the PC version. FYI, this download requires a Steam account. It took about an hour to download on my connection. No huge issues for me during download or installation.

Rocksmith is a pretty awesome tool for guitarists of all levels. I consider myself an intermediate guitarist. I am self-taught and mostly play acoustic/fingerstyle guitar. I caught Rocksmith on sale and decided to pick up an electric guitar to give it a shot. So far, I am not disappointed. The games main premise is to teach you songs. Learn the songs on a real guitar, score high enough and you unlock rewards and even more songs.

+Rocksmith magically adjusts to match your skill level. It catches on pretty quickly to how many notes or chords you can handle. You never have to worry about never getting to the end of the song because Rocksmith constantly adjusts the song difficulty.

+Different rehearsal modes help master songs. I really enjoy the riff repeater feature. It takes a section of the song and you can either play the section slowly, gradually picking up speed each time you complete the section perfectly. My favorite is the Leveler mode. Each time you complete the section, it adds on more notes until you reach 100% mastery.

If you want to learn how to play the guitar, don't purchase this item. If you want to learn how to play a specific song(s), purchase this item.

Rocksmith is another one of those, learn how to play song X, not learn how to play guitar. It has things in there that tell you how to hold it properly, picking, and all the basic guitar stuff, but it won't teach you pentatonic scales, it won't teach you chords either. Sure, it will show you what a power chord is, but it won't teach you the chord of G, it won't teach you the chord of A, or F, or E, or whatever, it won't engage you in playing chords to eventually get better, it will only teach you what game mechanics you need in order to play the song you are currently playing.

The better you play, more notes will appear on the play area, which isn't really adapting to me, just more of a headache, because if you are doing super well on the notes its giving you, now it's going to shoot out notes on every string and expect you to pick that up right off the bat, or otherwise you start doing horrible. The game's advertisments are misleading, they only teach you how to play a specific song(s) not how to play the actual guitar.
