Ubuntu 11.10 Desktop ... (etc.) would be much more useful if its contents appeared to have anything to do with the subject of its title page. Much of the detail I have read so far (I am only about 1/4 of the way into the book) appears to have fallen from the moon -- I sit here with Ubuntu 11.10 running on a computer in front of me and find that almost nothing is the way the book describes it. Perhaps this is the fault of Ubuntu Unity (?), but I believe that the purchaser deserves better! Clearly, the Ubuntu distros represent a moving target (a random walk?), but this book is badly in need of an up-dating.
I am adding this to my comments above. I am now almost finished with this book, and want to emphasize what I said above: the connection between the actuality of a running Ubuntu 11.10 and the contents of this work is almost non-existent. Most of the "helpful comments" either flat-out don't work, or work only if greatly modified. One further comment: scattered throughout the text are references to "Tables" which never appear. This is substantially annoying!
It seems clear that the book was rushed to print before the 11.10 distribution was finalized. Caveat emptor!!!!
