5.0 out of 5 stars Great for fans and character designers, April 21, 2009
This review is from: Udon's Art of Capcom (Paperback)
Length:: 0:22 Mins

My copy of Udon's Art of Capcom has finally arrived from Amazon Canada, after 2 months of shipping! I must remind myself not to buy stuff from there again without choosing a faster shipping option.

This book is supposedly out of print. When I saw it on Amazon Canada in stock, I just grabbed it instantly. I'm pretty sure this is a reprint although nowhere inside the book suggested that. Currently, the book is back in availability in most places. Oh, the out-of-stock prices went over US$100 the other time.

Udon's Art of Capcom is Udon's art book tribute to Capcom published in 2007, signifying five years of working together.

This book isn't just about Street Fighter, although it takes up the main bulk of the book. It also contains art for Darkstalkers, Rival School, World of Capcom and Capcom Fighting Evolution. Many of these are full page colour illustrations.

The artistic style is mainly Japanese manga so I guess most of the artists are the comic artists. I've read other reviewers say that some of the images have appeared from the comic books, so there might be some repetition. I don't have the comics so I can't comment on that. Let's just say that the art is still great.

For Fighting Evolution, many comic panels for character endings are included.

Right at the end are two tutorials on how two of the illustrations are created, one being the cover art. The tutorials are from Arnold Tsang and Omar Dogan.

This is a recommended book to fans of Udon and character designers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellently Excellent., March 6, 2008
This review is from: Udon's Art of Capcom (Paperback)
UDON's Art of Capcom is a great purchase for any fan of the Capcom Video game series. It features covers from video games such as Street Fighter, UDON's Street Fighter Graphic novel/comic series, and other famed fighting game series'. If you are a collector of Videogame artbooks, be aware that this is actually made by and from UDONs artists themselves and does not feature any of the Art from Capcom's own Graphic Artists. This book is drawn extremely well, has rich details, and amazing colors.

5.0 out of 5 stars fantasic art of CAPCOM's finest, February 17, 2008
This review is from: Udon's Art of Capcom (Paperback)
Quick and simple: Udon has put together a great book filled with beautiful illustrations and cover art from their history with the CAPCOM characters.
If you're looking for original CAPCOM art this isn't the book for you but if you appreciate professional CAPCOM "fan art" and simply love the CAPCOM characters don't hesitate to add this book to your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Collection but lacked a bit in new content, January 13, 2008

This review is from: Udon's Art of Capcom (Paperback)
The art is great in UDON's Art of Capcom but overall i felt it lacked a little bit of new content. The problem for me was I've seen a lot of the artwork from reading UDON's Street Fighter comic. Don't get me wrong there are some stuff I haven't seen before but the majority of the work seems to stem from the Street Fighter comic.

I loved the inclusion of Resident Evil, Darkstalkers, and many many other franchises from capcom but like i said before it was still lacking. I just wished there was more art from some of the other franchises, especially from Resident Evil because it's one of my favorites.

Overall though I'd say the book is worth the amount you pay.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't expect all of Capcom's art, March 13, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Udon's Art of Capcom (Paperback)
Ok, the other reviews are correct in saying not all of Capcom's art is contained into this book. BUT it's UDON's art and not all of Capcom, Udon is just one of the many contributers to Capcom's artworks. If you want something that encompasses more of Capcom's titles you may want to check out "Capcom Design works" it's kind of hard to find in the US and about 3x the price of Udon's title, but it's a good buy.

As for Udon's book, as soon as I took it out of the box I was in a good mood. Raised printing, glossy pages, and an impressive 4 page spread of the Street Fighter characters inside. I also enjoyed how they showed their process of creating the cover in the back of the book (even though it's not extremely detailed). If you fallow Udon this is a great book and the fact that it doesn't have many of Capcom's title should not subtract in you buying a copy... After all it is UDON'S Art of Capcom... not Art of Capcom.

I bought this book for my son who is studying Animation in college. I wanted to surprise him and read descriptions of other books by reviewers in the same visual arts field and chose this book because of their high recommendations.

It includes plenty for your eyeballs to bathe in, as well as some god descriptions and information. The price was good and my son uses this as a fun book to peruse, as well as a resource book for him for ideas and inspiration.

5.0 out of 5 stars Udon's Art of Capcom book 1, December 16, 2010

This review is from: Udon's Art of Capcom (Paperback)
Being a fan of Capcom for many years I naturaly when I saw this book I had to own it.
Udon has been doing art work for Capcom for awhile now and this book features various Capcom series. Mainly from Street Fighter to Darkstalkers but has small sections of other fighting classics like Rival Schools other Capcom worlds and even Fighting Evolution.
The Artwork is just incredible and any fan of Capcom's various Fighting series will appreciate this book.
It even has a illustration tutorial at the end of the book for those who want to see how the magic works, as an artist myself this is a plus.
Now there is a Udon's Art of Capcom 2 out there now, and honestly I recommned getting it as well.
There is one thing I want to comment on if some people are looking forward to seeing any Megaman, Devil May Cry and Onimusha. They are featured in this book but very little, but at 300 pages you're getting more than enough. So don't let that stop you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice book, if you like Street Fighter, December 15, 2009
By
This review is from: Udon's Art of Capcom (Paperback)
The quality is very nice, and I'm sure you'll be satisfied if you like Capcom's fighting games. Personally, I would have liked there to be more of a variety.

Seriously, Street Fighter makes up about 75% of the content of this book. I'd estimate Rival Schools and Darkstalkers makes up about 20%, with everything else being around 5%. Don't expect much of anything else.

I knocked off a star because of the wording on the back. It implies that Mega Man is included. There's ONE Mega Man picture in the entire 300+ pages, the cover art for the MMX Collection. Kind of deceptive if you ask me.

As much as I wanted to buy this product for myself, I decided to instead buy this book for a friend as a Christmas present. The pricey barrier to entry can be a turn-off for some, but if you're a fan of anime, quality artwork or the products of game maker Capcom, this is a great purchase.
