Philip Klass (1919-2005) was the "archest" of UFO skeptics until the time of his death; he was also was a senior editor of Aviation Week & Space Technology for thirty-four years, and was a founding member of the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP).

This 1974 book was Klass's second (his first was Ufos--Identified) in the field; in addition to his earlier theories that some UFOs reports are generated by freak atmospheric electrical phenomena such as ball lightning or plasma caused by nearby electrical power lines, he puts forward ten "UFOlogical Principles" (e.g., "News media that give great prominence to a UFO report when it is first received, subsequently devote little if any space or time for reporting a prosaic explanation for the case when all the facts are uncovered").

He advances his typical skeptical arguments: e.g., "If giant saucer-shaped craft with exotic flight characteristics have been operating in our skies for more than twenty-five years, it is surprising that there is not a single authentic photo of such an object." He also criticizes J. Allen Hynek's research of the Socorro report, "Despite Hynek's own recognition of the critical importance of the critical importance of the Socorro case, he spent less than one day on the scene on his first visit. And it was not until nearly four months later that Hynek found time to return to Socorro for an equally brief visit."

Klass further developed his ideas in his later books (e.g.,

A classic scientific work that explains what these flying objects are and are not. An excellent work covering many famous "incidents."

After reading 25 books that promote the theory that UFOs are intelligently controlled machines, that aliens have crash landed on earth, and that the US goverment is covering it all up,I now have read a book that clearly and with logic debunks the most classic cases.I am not going to flatly state UFOs are not real, but this book makes one pause and reflect. The answer to the UFO puzzle is not a slam dunk as so many authors would have you believe.

It's a little too dated to be a serious explanation for some of the more recent UFO sightings. Although it explains many of the reasons people misidentify many natural phenomenon for UFOs. It's a classic serious investigation of the subject for those interested in what is going on with this subject.

Klass is a clown and I wouldnt be surprised if he was paid by the government to debunk all good ufo cases for them.
People like him would still think the earth is flat and go out of his way to try and prove others that think its round are nuts.
He'll go out of his way and try and make someone look bad and discredit their story just because he doesnt believe.
If everyone had a closed mind like his we would still be living in the Dark Ages.
Are ufos real? I dont know but I would like to think so.Theres billions of planets out there and its very hard to believe we are
the only one with life on it.But brain dead people like Klass believe that.Look how far weve advanced in over a 100 plus years from
covered wagons to space shuttles, cell phones, super tech electronics etc etc.So imagine if another civilization is a 1,000 years more advanced than us,10,000,50,000 and
so on?Imagine how much more advanced they would be than us.
Theres way too many good cases and witnessed be reputable people all over the world to all being a hoax but Klass would like you to think theyre all a hoax.
