Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 7 Up Similar in format to Cohen's The World of UFO's (Lippincott, 1978), this book reprises the history of UFO study in the 20th Century, then goes on to expand and clarify details concerning some UFO sightings and contact cases only briefly appearing in the earlier work. A chapter entitled ``Sex and the Flying Saucer'' reveals the seamy and sometimes harmful aspects of many recent contact encounters. A considerable amount of attention is given to the latest well-known contactee incidents: Whitley Strieber's account in Communion (Morrow, 1987) and Shirley MacLaine's ``New Age'' beliefs. Throughout, the tone of skepticism exhibited in Cohen's A Close Look at Close Encounters (Dodd, 1981; o.p.) is maintained, but the treatment seems fair with few hints of derision common to skeptics. The bibliography is shorter than that in The World of UFO's, but two-thirds of the books listed are different from or newer than those in the earlier bibliography. A 16-title filmography of motion pictures which have dealt with the topics of alien life forms and UFO's supplements the text. Strong interest in this topic has spawned many books accessible to readers at this level, but none include a discussion of the ``New Age'' ideas in connection with UFOs. Ann G. Brouse, Steele Memorial Library, Elmira, N.Y.

4.0 out of 5 stars UFO's The Third wave, March 28, 2003
By
This review is from: Ufos: The Third Wave (Hardcover)
UFOs are always facinating to think about. They ask us 1 question-Is there anything out there? Nobody knows for sure if UFOs exist. Although this book gives us a large amount of facts and some roomers that were out in that time when ufoenthusiats or ufologists were relatively new. We all believe that ufo exploration began lately because of recent technology, but it is not true. UFOexploration began in 1947. On earth,as scientists predict, there will always be controversies until an extraterrestrial reveals himself to us. This will happen because of the fact that they are superior.
I like the fact in the book that to continue to have the readers attention the author uses roomers. For example, in one of the stories the book goes"According to persistant roomers, this is what happened:" and he completes the story. He doesn't do it is one strory he continues it in all of them, but he also has a non-fictional part.
The author Daniel Cohen, displays his knowledge in a creative way. He says "In the begining" to give out
non-fictional details. He tells us about the three waves of UFOexploration."The first one began in 1947 there was initial interest in UFOexplorarion, but later it faded. Spectaculr sightingsin Michigan interested a lot of people and finally we are in the third wave supposedly the best of all because of the technology we have."
I love the part were Daniel Cohen tells us about the stories
that have affected human lives. Although if I had to choose one it would be the Cosmic watergate it is a wonderful story and the author uses several refrences to it. That will have to be my favorite part in the book.
