Book Description

Sophie Green, the worst spy the British secret service has ever seen, is back and she’s in love—with a car.

Book two of the Sophie Green Mysteries.

Her best friend is being stalked, and to find out why, Sophie has to solve a murder committed fifteen years ago. Complicating the case is Docherty, whose brooding eyes and Irish accent get Sophie almost as hot as his Aston Martin—and her partner Luke, who may be sexy as hell but has all the interpersonal skills of a speeding bullet. Not that Sophie’s going to allow the state of her love life to distract her from her mission. Much.

Murder plots, stolen supercars, coolheaded mercenaries and mysterious artifacts? Must be a Tuesday.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific series in the making! December 10, 2007
When I first read the first Sophie Green book, I thought Kate Johnson might be a new potential auto-buy author for me. Well, she has definitely clinched that position with this book! Sophie and Luke continue their hilarious adventures and Docherty? Is HOT. I won't spoil the story by giving away plot points here, but suffice it to say that the high bar Johnson set in I, Spy? has been raised still higher. If you have a sense of humor and the ability to read, you need to read this series!

4.0 out of 5 stars 2nd book does not disappoint June 2, 2010

3.5 stars, rounded up.
The second installment of the Sophie Green series (after I Spy) does not disappoint. Again, we encounter the blundering, endearing Sophie Green as she attempts to help her best friend who is wrapped in a mystery from the past. I thought it was a bit contrived how Harvey was introduced again - is always just going to pop up? Similarly to I Spy, Ugley Business is extremely fast paced, exciting and entertaining. I was about half way through when I went ahead and ordered books 3 and 4. Just like the first book, Ugley Business is a cute beach read, not an insightful look at... anything. It's just a fun book.

You can read this as a stand alone book even though it's part of a series. It does involve the same characters and some of the storyline continues from book to book.

I got the first Sophie Green book for free on Kindle. LOVED IT. Immediately upon finishing it, I bought the following 3 books in the series. The books are hilarious and a lot of fun, can't go wrong if you just want an entertaining, light read. Highly recommend! I hope Kate Johnson continues this series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nothing Ugly Here February 27, 2011
By MomSaga
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The Sophie Green Series is for fans of comedic mystery with a side of romance. Sophie is the UK's Stephanie Plum. This series was fast paced and entertaining. More chick lit, though, than hard-boiled mystery. Sophie is a lovable, quirky character who finds herself in situations that range from hilarious to downright dangerous.

5.0 out of 5 stars interesting, funny and some romance too! May 26, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed reading this book, it was laugh out loud funny in spots, has some romance and some mystery, and some British idioms that don't detract from the story even if you aren't familiar with them. Highly recommended.

More About the Author

I was born in 1982 (no, really) in the north of England. When I was two, we moved to the south-east of England. Then for a bunch of time nothing happened, until the summer after my GCSEs when I was bored and sat down to write a story. Then I wrote another. Then another. Many, many terrible attempts later, I gave up and got a job at Stansted Airport, where I worked before, during and after 9/11, checking in passengers and baggage for a low-cost airline.

After I quit, I came up with the idea for Sophie. If you want to know exactly how, you can read about it here. Since then, writing's been my main focus, although in the meantime I've done things I'm not proud of. My job history involve lots of sweeping and many instances of ignoring a ringing phone. I've been known to get up at 3.30am or work until 11pm. Now, of course, I take great pains to avoid all those things. Except for 11pm. I'm rather fond of that.

My hobbies include researching my literary competition (reading lots of books), researching through a broad spectrum of media (watching films and TV), admiring the work of (drooling over) fine actors such as David Tennant, Richard Armitage and Hugh Jackman, and being used as a bed/scratch-post/chew-toy/human slave by my cats and dog.

If you want to know more about the glamorous everyday life of an author, you can check out my blog, which is full of pictures of my furbabies and the men I fancy. I mean, whose work I admire. Ahem. I have a Yahoo group for news and updates, and if you're on Facebook then I'd love you to join my page.
