About the Author

Lorinda Bryan Cauley has worked as an artist for more than thirty years. An illustrator, painter and designer, Lorinda holds a degree from the Rhode Island School of Design. She has illustrated over fifty children's books through the years, many classic folktales and others which she has written herself. Lorinda is the author and illustrator of "Clap Your Hands" and "What Do You Know!", two popular interactive books for very young children that were inspired by her own four children when they were young. After taking some time off to pursue designing a clothing line, Lorinda is now back to her first love of drawing and painting. Her children's book illustrations are known for imbuing her characters with life, personality and energy. She artfully blends realism and fantasy in her animal characters, along with rich colors and whimsical details. Lorinda's love of nature and gardening has also inspired her to work on a series of botanical watercolors of many of her favorite flowers, vegetables and fruits, along with insects and birds native to the area. The mother of two grown sons, she lives with her husband and her two daughters in Greenwich, Connecticut.

2.0 out of 5 stars disturbing, September 20, 2000

This review is from: The Ugly Duckling (Paperback)
The pictures were very nice, but my daughter was very upset by the part in which two geese are shot and killed by hunters. The illustration shows the two dead geese lying in the water with holes in them and blood flowing out of the holes into the water. I really think this little section could have been left out. I wish I had purchased a different version of the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars We think the book was well written., January 13, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Ugly Duckling (Paperback)
We liked the story of The Ugly Duckling. He turned into a beautiful swan. We loved the detail and colors of the pictures in this version of The Ugly Duckling. We would encourage others to read this version because we have been reading this book in our 2nd grade class.
