Editorial Reviews

2013 release, the 11th album from the Thrash Metal band. Ugly Noise marked the first Flotsam And Jetsam album recorded with original members Michael Gilbert (guitar) and Kelly David Smith (drums) since 1997's High. Original bassist Jason Newsted also co-wrote some songs for the album but did not officially rejoin the band.

If your a thrash fan this is the most under rated bands in the world. Flotsam and Jetsam has been around for about 25 years and they deserve RESPECT. They stayed true to the thrash when others gave in commercially, I wont give any names but they know who they are. As for this album Ugly Noise it remains the same. Listen to Rage, Motherf***ery, I Believe, To Be Free, Gitty Up, Carry On, just listen to the whole damn album, not a weak track on it. I've been a fan of Flotsam and Jetsam when they were The Dogs and I will remain their fan till I'm six feet under. People say "The Big 4" where the hell is Flotsam and Jetsam in this so called mix remember Metallica used Flotsam' bassist Jason Newsted for 5 albums which in my opinion was weak. You Want Heavy Metal Buy ALL of Flotsam and Jetsam' albums!!! Let me help you, 1.Doomsday for the Deceiver, 2.No Place For Disgrace 3.When the Storm Comes Down, 4.Cuatro, 5.Drift, 6.High, 7.Unnatural Selection, 8.My God, 9.Dreams of Death, 10.The Cold,11.Ugly Noise. There, you'll find them all at Amazon.com. Buy them and give the RESPECT these guy's deserve. FLOTZ TILL DEATH!!!!!

WOW! Welcome back original line up. This album will tear your face off. From start to finish these songs are both original and heavy. Possibly the best album since "no place for disgrace" and that is saying something. Crank it up and enjoy!

In a busy year packed with new releases from such heavyweights as Black Sabbath, Sodom, Megadeth, Queensryche (both versions :p), Queens of The Stone Age, Alice In Chains, etc, comes what should have been just a pedestrian release from a retread 'thrash' band presumably on its last legs.

Instead, we get not only the best Flotsam and Jetsam album since "Cuatro", but quite possibly the best release these Arizona stalwarts have EVER released - and an early contender for album of the year.

The songwriting? Top Notch. Diversity in mood and tempo? Check. Heavy and in the right places? Yes. Picking your spots and finding groove when necessary? Check - and topped off with an incredible production job and terrific vocals from Eric AK.

Congrats to Flotz for a successful release and let's not forget to thank Brian Slagel at Metal Blade for taking a chance and giving these guys another lease on life.

Now, if only a certain band that once poached their bassist could ask them to join them on tour.....yeah right!

definitly worth getting for flotz fans and metal fans. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it's not thrashmetal enough for me. It is heavy metal. But not as thrash as Unnatural selection or Drift. You won't be disappointed in buying this.

Well this new release is a little different than the last on,the cold,so it still has a heaviness to it but in a different way. By that I mean these metal veterans go in a different direction instead of their pantened sound which is a good thing. There are some riffing on this Cd here and there but not at any speed sense, some of their pace is slowed down. Great song writing with great rymthm makes for good release.

...I would have said they might be trying to sell out. But I know that it's 2013 and so do they and what sold back then wouldn't sell the same now. That's the awkward vibe I get from Ugly Noise. A mixture a classic Flotsam thrash n'roll (you heard me correctly) and some strange sounds out of nowhere; some almost commercial like songs. At least a third of the songs are as such and you may get tired of them after a while depending on your mood. The others are give and take with decent grooves in typical Flotsam style. I do have to admit that IMO they did it again...they made a record that was completely different from the last 2 or 3. And that's what they've been doing most of their career. God bless them for that. Also, what makes me want to listen to them no matter how good or so so the song is, is Erik A.K.'s voice which is like no other. Unique indeed! I give it 3.5 stars and it kills me to do so because I love these guys so much and they hold a special place in my Metal Heart! Long time F & J fans should enjoy this no matter what but those who thought that The Cold was amazing might not like this. Enjoy it anyway! Peace!
