Product Description

Kyoto has been holding the reputation as the birthplace of high quality of tea. The plant is flourishing especially in Uji, which is located on the south in Kyoto, for the reasons below."Rich nature and environment suited to the cultivation." There are two rivers running - the Kizu river and the Uji river - through, and morning mist comes up from both rivers gives enough moisture to tea trees. And the property in Uji surrounded by many mountains is suitable for the growing of tea." Tradition rooted on this area" Until the Kamakura Era, Kyoto was the center of everything; culture, academy, art, architecture, economy, and politics. And the way of tea had been formed and sharpened, and refined by many great pioneers like Eisai or Senno-Rikyu(Tea Master), and its style and thought still remain as the part of Japanese tradition. Ujinotsuyuseicha Co., Ltd. is an Uji-based manufacture, having the aim at spreading our tradition through tea to all over the world.

There is no argument as to the numerous health benefits of drinking green tea. In fact, it's actually used in cancer centers as it's been proven to actually fight some types of cancer and prevent free radicals in addition to also being shown as a metabolism booster in study after study. That alone makes it a find!

The best type of green tea with the most benefits is, of course, matcha...regardless of what brand you buy.

Although I found the size to be small as there is also a bag inside the tiny tin, a little goes a long way and I've used it to make everything from green tea biscotti to green tea smoothies.

I ordered this matcha hoping it would be of the same quality are the $12 matcha I usually purchase from a local Asian market. I was very dissapointed. This is culinary grade matcha. It doesn't dissolve well and the color of the tea is dark, very different from the bright green matcha I am used to. The flavour is somewhat bitter and flat, at least in comparison to any good drinking-grade matcha I've tried. I'm sure this is a fine option if you intend only to cook with it or make sweetened iced tea, but if you intend to consume it as a hot tea, I would advise you to select a different product of better quality.

This can is much smaller than I was expecting, but it is very strong and flavor filled. I do quite a bit of japaneese baking which calles for this particular ingredient. For the price paid I would have expected more. However I usually have to use less than a recipe calls for, because its almost like it's the concentrated version.

This is a very 'authentic' type matcha powder. It very much reminded me of brewing up a cup in a Japanese sushi-go-round using the tiny container of loose powder, the small spoon and the extremely hot water spigot at the counter. It's not a sweet tea by any stretch, but definitely reminiscent of what I drank in Japan.

(It's a small container (check the size) but it doesn't require a lot of powder to brew a cup--I noticed this comment on a few of the other reviews).

Delicious and with health benefits too!

Highly Recommended,

JTG (missing Japanese cuisine)

I make protein shakes that require Matcha tea as one of their ingredients..it's pricey
but this tea is nicely packed in a storage tin and well priced too.

I enjoyed this Matcha. It is smooth, but be careful on the amount used. A little bit goes a long way. The tin holds 40 g. but if properly used, you will get your money's worth. I have also used it in smoothies and baking with excellent results.
