Emu recently added the Ukala name to their brand, and what an embarrassing addition it is! Last year, I owned 2 pair of these same boots and they were of a COMPLETELY different quality. I wore both of them out, so decided to buy 2 new pair. Under the Ukala name, the sole is now made out of some type of styrofoam that doesn't bend, and is EXTREMELY SLIPPERY!!! There is no traction, and with the new sole they are using, these boots are outright dangerous unless you're walking on dry pavement. They are definitely not meant for winter use. Unfortunately, I will be returning both pair, and recommend going to a better brand, like Bear Paw. They offer stylish boots at a lower cost than Emu/Ugg.
    SO disappointing.

I bought these because they were on sale for black friday week but I am very disappointed. They look nice but they are so poorly made I would have been better off buying the Target brand. First off, the sole isn't made out of rubber like normal boots, it is this inflexible foam stuff. When you walk there is no bend in the sole so you end up clomping around like a horse. Also, the bottom of the soles is shiny and slick so if you step on ice you slip all over. The lining of the boots might as well be shag carpet. It is so rough and thin. If you can find a different brand of boots for the same price I would recommend skipping these boots. I really liked my Target boots of similar fashion but just happened to see this deal and buy.

I love the Uggs that have this style to them, but as a college student, I just can't afford them. These are absolutely adorable and unlike other off-brand boots, it doesn't look cheap. They look amazing and pricey. They are just the right size on the calf for skinny jeans tucked in and bootcut over them w/o the buttons showing. The only thing I don't like is that the lining comes off in little pieces sometimes when you go to pull them on. Other than that they're great and I wear them all the time!

I bought two pair of Ukala for my wife at the beginning of this Dec.After arrived, it seems good except the sole, which does not look like other boot, but we did not pay much attention although it is a little bit slippery even on dry pavement. After Christmas she went in the first snow here with them, it is so slippery that she felt down and hurt her leg.I wish I had read some reviews before bought them. Winter boots should not be produced like this.

i loved these when I got them, very warm and comfortable and casual boots... but one of the strings broke already, after only wearing them 3-4 times. I'm not sure what to do with a broken pair of boots.

I've been buying these Emu boots for a few years since the soles of my feet started having issues - the soft inner lining is what gets me through a day on my feet. But Emu sold this to Ukala, but did NOT allow Ukala to use Emu soles. They just leave the inner sole exposed and emboss an "emu" pattern to make it *look* like it would have traction. But this inner sole material is NOT made for walking and wears significantly in just a couple of months. I have fallen twice on wet pavement because of the papery/stiff (not rubbery) nature of this material. The uppers are still pretty good, but the soles are garbage and a safety hazard. The only way to have these be safe is to buy them then have a shoe repair person glue a real sole to them - otherwise you will fall on the next rainy day.

This is really sad because I've depended on these boots for years now, but I can't any more.

EDIT: I did find a fix. If you can get these on sale, then it's worth the price to take it to a shoe repair person *before* you wear them and have a decent, stock rubber outersole put on them ($20 - $30).

The tops are great, the soles are a total safety hazard. Ukala blew me off when I called them saying, "It's not an all-weather boot." Which is garbage because I fell on wet concrete in the summer with just sprinklers going. I guess if they admit it, then they might be up for a lawsuit from someone who fell and broke their elbow or something.

I have another Ukala boot (rubber sole) that I love. So I'm writing this review hoping especially to warn anyone who might assume that all Ukalas are created equal. The biggest problem with this boot is the "man-made sole". It is inflexible with no give at all. Walking is, at best, uncomfortable and, at worst, a chore, like trying to "galumph" around with a board strapped to the foot. Worse still, for a winter boot, it is slick. It has no traction, not even friction. I'd be cautious wearing these on carpeted steps and outright afraid to step on ice in them.

There were also minor cosmetic problems that made the boot just look cheaply made. Threads unraveled at some points or seams were not tight. And some of the lining was sewn under the front seam at the top, poking out at strange places.

I had second thoughts from the moment I opened the package. The construction flaws negated the "cuteness factor" in my book. And if you're considering this as a gift, please think twice. It makes a bad impression from the moment you lift the lid.

But it was the danger and discomfort of the sole that guaranteed these boots a round trip back to the retailer.

(If you intend to go ahead with this purchase, I can tell you that it seems to fit true-to-size.)
