It's better than ever,

I got GIF Animator 5 as an upgrade to version 4. Wow, what an improvement, Ulead! I love the fact that you can animate objects within the program and not have to toggle back and forth with my image editor. Plus, the way it links with my image editor is awesome. Thanks, Ulead, for adding true color palettes so I can get my files down to very managable sizes. I am going to put aside Image Ready for now and have a hey day with this one.

Good! but must buy Add-in for transition and filter effects,

I am not a pro at all. I just wanted to play around a build my own animated emoticons/smileys.This product is good, but if you want transition and filering effects (i.e. effects on your animations, instead of just a looping sequence of pictures) you have to buy an Add-in software called "F/X for GIF Animator" by the same firm Unlead.

NEVER MIND the file size....,

Over and over again I tried to slice the file size of finished animation - to no avail.Yes - if you only used a postage stamp size image you might get by with being able to use it on your website with a halfway decent loading time. We tried to use the gif animator in our gallery on several occasions - guranted, with high quality images of max filesize 12kb each (can't go any lower if anyone is to see any quality at all) and the finished, so called improved file size still was larger than any website page can carry - unless you want to wait for the 30-45 seconds for that single instance to load - no one does, not even at the best websites. So, we have another 'wonderful' program dusting away on our shelves.

I used Ulead GIF Animator in an unusual way.
I shot live footage on my Cannon GL1 and then downloaded it into GIF animator for frame-by-frame editing where I could do about 300 frames at a time (10 seconds). In the editing, I could remove things I didn't want to look at, or block out a spot that will "chroma key" in another image later. Then, I'd take the AVI output format, put it into a video editor, and put it back with the superimposed images and sound. Not classic. Not cool, but doable with a $50 software package.

AWESOME!,
By A Customer
This program is outstanding! I've been using it since I was probably 11... so you know it's pretty easy to use. It's easy but it has a great outcome... I make AIM buddy icons with it and they are really awesome. My friends BEG me to make them icons... all thanks to GIF Animator! Buy it now!

For me, it was useless,

I've been a happy user of Ulead GIF Animator 3.0 for a very long time, but I was intrigued by the claims of "tweening" made for 5.0. So I downloaded a trial version from CNET, and I was immediately put off by a new but very confusing, unintuitive interface - totally unlike the clear, straightforward interface of 3.0. Once I had become familiar with the new design (which I still do not like), I found the tweening function to be a joke - at least on my machine. Yes, it did quickly produce a specified number of new frames between the two frames I wanted tweened, but they were all exact replicas of my first frame! There was no tweening whatsoever, just a number of duplicates! I uninstalled and re-installed the program, thinking that it might be a defective installation or that I was missing something, but after re-reading the instructions carefully, the second time was as total a loss as the first. Furthermore, the transparency function in 5.0 was baffling and buggy, whereas I was able to produce perfectly consistent transparent areas in 3.0 without even reading any directions.

Best Gif Animator there is,

Ulead's Gif Animator (any version) is hands down the best gif animation program available. The clarity and smooth motion I get with this program is second to none. It's straightforward and easy to learn. It's got features for beginners but can be as complex as you wish it to be. Chocked full of features, you'll not find any other gif animation program that compares. Then again, all the Ulead products I've tried are excellent so I wasn't too surprised. No, I don't work for them or get kickbacks. LOL... just an avid Ulead fan who loves the compliments I get on the graphics I've created using their products. And the price is right too! Beats the pants of Xara products any day.

Works not so crazy,

i've use this program to also extract frams and edit them with photo impact then put them back into video format. It the best extractor i've found so far but it does crash on anymore then 300 frames being extracted. the main reason is as stated by the reviewer before me to crisp up chroma key back grounds. long and boring but well worth doing frame by frame
