5.0 out of 5 stars Terri does it again! This is a great book!
This is a great book, as are all Terri's books! She keeps you guessing and in suspense. As always, she provides you with biblical answers to difficult situations. She doesn't skirt or sugarcoat the hard issues, but deals with them head on.

3.0 out of 5 stars Love the author but not this book
I am a 22 year old avid reader. Terri Blackstock ranks up there with Francine Rivers in my book. But I was disappointed in Ulterior Motives, because of it's dealings with divorce. I am a firm believer in the Biblical mandates that divorce is wrong, with the one exception given for abuse/unfaithfulness. The main characters' divorce fell under that exception, and so altho I...

4.0 out of 5 stars Ulterior Motives Review, March 26, 2006
In this third book of the series, Terri Blackstock introduces a new character to the mix. While still excellent, the characters don't have as much punch as in the previous two books. Her characters' struggles with coming to the Lord need to be better worked out. Still, this is a great read.

This was a very enjoyable read, just enough mix of mystery, romance and values to appeal to me. I've ordered and read others in his series and passed along to relatives and friends who are enjoying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Motives for Reading this Book, October 6, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is excellent for our times. It is book three in the Sun Coast Chronicles, so I enjoyed the continuing saga of several of the characters from previous books. It would be most helpful for you to read them in sequence because of the recurring characters.

This particular book deals with the issue of blended families which is prevalent in our society and many Christians who strive to live for the Lord must deal with the hurt, anger and vengeful attitudes which go along with the desinigration of a marriage. It also helps us see there are always two sides to a break-up. Although one partner was faithful throughout the break-up that doesn't necessarily mean he or she was not without some fault.

It's also a great thriller involving murder and kidnapping. ENJOY!

Terri Blackstock is not only one of the most unique writers today, incorporating her stong faith in her work; but is also among the very best in creating compelling plots and people about whom the reader cares. This talent is increasingly rare, even among the "best-selling" secular authors. --Ron Howe (a.k.a., Toby Martin II)

3.0 out of 5 stars Love the author but not this book, March 9, 2010
I am a 22 year old avid reader. Terri Blackstock ranks up there with Francine Rivers in my book. But I was disappointed in Ulterior Motives, because of it's dealings with divorce. I am a firm believer in the Biblical mandates that divorce is wrong, with the one exception given for abuse/unfaithfulness. The main characters' divorce fell under that exception, and so altho I never support divorce, I cannot argue with her reasons for divorce. But because of divorce being a large factor of the plot, I found it very difficult to engage with the charactors of the story. I realize, unfortunately, that divorce is becoming the norm, even among Christians, and so I am no so unfeeling as to be unsympathetic for those who have experienced it, especially when the divorce papers were served on them. But because the "new life" of the husband and his new wife played such a huge part in the plot, it seemed to be going against what I believe the Lord would have found honorable. <spoiler> And at the end of the book, when the divorced woman begins to date again, I once more found objection, since the bible also clearly says that IF a person does have biblical grounds for divorce, they are to remain unmarried. Just because divorce is a big part of our culture now, does not excuse the fact that God hates divorce. I realise that Terri Blackstock herself comes from a divorced background and I can see how she would want to write concerning something she has felt and hurt through...but when divorce is upholded, I cannot agree. I give it 3 stars because it's Terri Blackstock, but leave the other two stars blank.
