4.0 out of 5 stars A great RPG bundle., August 1, 2000
This review is from: Ultima Online: Renaissance / Ultima 9: Ascension Bundle (CD-ROM)
This set is a great introduction to the lands of Ultima and role-playing games in general. Ultima Online is a deep, rich, open-ended experience that allows you to create a vast variety of characters, and interact with others from all corners of the globe. Ultima IX is a beautiful, huge game packed with spells, quests, monsters, and a deeply woven plot. However, to play UO you will need to shell out $10 a month, and U9 requires a cutting-edge system to run. Other than this, I heartily recommend these games.

O.K. I just want to get this out in the open, Ultima Online does NOT have great graphics(on a scale from 1 to ten I would give it a 5). Ultima Online, if you don't know what you are doing when you start out is a HORRIBLE game. If you know what you are doing then it is extremly fun(to know what you are doing I would reccomend visiting "uo.stratics.com"). Ultima Online is great on so many levels. You are, in the game living your life, day by day. Just like in real life you have to make money. To do that you need a skill that will make you some cash. This game is also NOT a regular game where you mess with A.I. the other people are real players playing the game just like you in their own homes. If you are thinking that this would be annoying, morons running around saying "I'm a pony. I'm a pony" it is not because you can get jailed for that. Also you may have gotten the notion from some other reviews that there is a problem with lag. Well, I've been playing for 4 1/2 years and only two times have I had a problem with lag where I froze because of lag and a monster killed me. Just pick a server that is intended to be used by people in your general . For example if you live in Southern California then pick Baja if you live in Northern California then pick Pacific, Pick Chesaepeake if you well you get my point so just pick the right server, read uo.stratics.com and find someone in the game to be your friend and this game is soooooooooo much fun

5.0 out of 5 stars Could lead to divorce...., November 27, 2001

Ok, granted, this not the best graphical game in the world. However, it's not about the graphics. For those that are looking for that "blow'em up" "shoot'em up" "Kill'em all and let God sort them out" type of game, look somewhere else.
Ultima is a game of patience, endurance, and above all else, creativity.
If you love games where you can choose to be the bad guy or good guy, to choose between being a warrior or a magician, basically where you can choose to be anything you want to be, this is the game to go with.
