Most prominent in MCE's ULTIMATE 150 CARTOON FESTIVAL are shorts featuring the New 3 Stooges, Betty Boop, Popeye and "bouncing ball" singalongs. Of especial interest to vintage animation fans are silent-era cartoons drawn by Walt Disney. Oswald Rabbit is clearly the physical predecessor of Mickey Mouse. Disney's "Alice" animations combine live action and cartooning. Also from the pre-talkies 1920s are a half-dozen Felix the Cat shorts. The adult subjects of these include a visit to Bolshevik Russia that gets rather frightening, a trip through the transatlantic pipeline and a Hollywood audition.

Animations are generally grouped by studio via a simple menu system and subdivided according to main character. No superimposed on-screen logos mar the cartoons. Video dub quality varies with stock condition-- that is, from very good to barely fair. Audio is uniformly strong and without excessive filtering.


This MILL CREEK DVD set plus their 150 CARTOON CLASSICS have been combined into the truly AMAZING 300 CLASSIC CARTOON COLLECTION. It's the largest gathering of public domain animation currently available.

Mill Creek Entertainment's "Ultimate 150 Cartoon Festival" showcases the usual public domain animation (Fleischer/Famous Studios, Van Beuren, Iwerks, etc.) with a few special exceptions. There is a hard-to-find copy of the Fleischer Color Classic "Tears of an Onion" (1938) - along with two Van Beuren gems from 1933, Tom and Jerry's "Happy Hoboes" and Cubby Bear's "Croon Crazy." Oddly enough, these aforementioned shorts are nowhere to be found on Mill Creek's "Giant 600 Cartoon Collection." In both instances, you must wade through an endless stream of made-for-TV clunkers such as "The New 3 Stooges" and "Mel-O-Toons." The print quality ranges from very good to nearly unwatchable.

I purchased this for my Grand daughters for Christmas. They love it and play it all the time. Would not hesitate to order more.

I just got my order of this cartoon package for the sole purpose of one cartoon, "The Tears Of An Onion". I rushed to see this portion of the DVD's and though the quality is not the best, it will suffice me knowing that the cartoons of those days were'nt like the computer generated cartoons of today. I will view the rest of the DVD's over the weekend but I'm sure I will not be disappointed, after all I grew up with some of these classics! I'm so happy to have found the one cartoon I've been searching all these years for. KUDOS!
