5.0 out of 5 stars Truly ultimate
There isn't much music from this generation I care for, but this singer is the one exception I have to make. Both my daughters and I loved Aaliyah. Young and gifted, there has yet to have been a singer in contemporary R&B to come along that can come close to filling the void she left. She definitely earned the title "Princess of R&B".

For those of you who do...

1.0 out of 5 stars Make a 20 Century Masters, PLEASE!
Aaliyah needs one! Why doesnt she have one yet? It should include: Age Aint Nothin But A Number, If Your Girl Only Knew, One In A Million, Four Page Letter, The One I Gave My Heart To (David Foster version), Are You That Somebody, Try Again, Rock The Boat, We Need A Resolution, More Than A Woman & Miss You. It should be a FULL and COMPLETE collection spanning her career...

For those of you who do not have any of Aaliyah's CDs, this CD/DVD collection is a great start. You get all of the beautiful Babygirl's hits from both her albums and movie soundtracks (only one missing: "Journey to the Past" from the "Anastasia" movie soundtrack) and a nice tribute song by Timbaland and Wyclef. The DVD is the original hour-long documentary that VH-1's "Behind The Music" aired and it includes behind the scenes footage, video clips and interviews with Missy Elliott, P. Diddy, Timbaland, Damon Dash and Aaliyah herself.

Watching the documentary always makes me a little emotional; I enjoyed Aaliyah's music very much, and the thought of all that was lost when she was taken from us at such a young age is truly a tragedy. I am older than most of her fans, but that doesn't mean I was not able to appreciate her talent, and that was something Aaliyah definitely had. This collection is truly ultimate, and rest assured, with a wonderful tribute like this, she will never be forgotten.

4.0 out of 5 stars A complete timeline of her career! (4.5 stars), April 13, 2006
By
A. Lawson (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ultimate Aaliyah (Audio CD)
In a span of only 7 years, Aaliyah Dana Haughton became one of the biggest and brightest stars in R&B. In 2001, she released her self-titled third album to rave reviews and was slated to star in two big-budget films later in the year. However, Aaliyah never lived to reap her newfound success as an ill-fated crash off of the Barbados coast took her life. It's still hard to believe to this day.

Since then, there's been a few compilations to harness Aaliyah's short-lived but successful career. Only one, however, has completely captured her best moments -- "Ultimate Aaliyah". Released in the U.K. in 2005, it's a three-disc set of her greatest hits, grab-bag material, and an hour-long DVD documentary paying tribute to the legacy she departed with. The U.S. saw the release of "I Care 4 U" (which was a decent hits compilation), but this is, by far, the best collection of Aaliyah's career. It includes ALL of her chart entries, (except "Come Over" and "Age Ain't Nuthin But A Number"), NEW unreleased material, and a special documentary of interviews and promo clips from some of the biggest and brightest stars who knew Aaliyah best.

In sum, Aaliyah's entire career is on display with this special collection. You don't have to look elsewhere to find Aaliyah at her best moments (unless you have to have "Age" and/or "Come Over"). As a bonus, you also get a DVD that tells her life through interviews and video clips from some of your favorite stars. This is truly the ultimate collection! Therefore, the only problem I have was its quiet release. An all-encompassing collection of Aaliyah's best moments with a bonus DVD and it gets a quiet U.K. release? Maybe it was contract issues with her label, but this record SHOULD have gotten a U.S. release. If you don't own it, it's a definite must-have, no matter the side of the ocean you're on. Highly recommended for any music fan, especially avid R&B followers.

5.0 out of 5 stars The "Ultimate Aaliyah" collection, August 7, 2005
This review is from: Ultimate Aaliyah (Audio CD)
This "Ultimate Aaliyah" collection is a must buy. It contains 2 cds and one dvd. This is a great collection. this set features 24 great Aaliyah hits and one of the most touching tributes ever, "Hold On" By Timbaland, Wyclef Jean, and Magoo. That song can make any Aaliyah fan cry. It was just so beautiful. the dvd is also great. It is an extended version of VH1's "Behing the Music" Aaliyah Special (It was edited on tv to air commercials) with interviews with P Diddy, Missy Elliott, Her brother Rashad, Gladys Knight, Usher, Mary J Blige and others. This is a must buy. This is the "Ultimate Aaliyah" collection for the "Ultimate Aaliyah" fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aaliyah - Ultimate Aaliyah, February 2, 2007
This review is from: Ultimate Aaliyah (Audio CD)
"Ultimate Aaliyah" (2005) is an impressive two disc release (+ Bonus dvd) consisting of twenty-five tracks from Aaliyah (Aaliyah Dana Haughton, January 16th 1979-August 25th 2001). Aaliyah's death at 22 years old sent shocks through the music world, a real tragedy - may she rest in peace. In her short lifetime Aaliyah was a prolific grammy winning artist, model & actress. This release opens with the exceptional "One In A Million", Aaliyah shines like the sun on this memorable love ballad. Next to this sweet cut, my favourite Aaliyah track is the outstanding slow jam "I Care 4 U", Aaliyah comforts a man who's women left him. I remember when "We Need A Resoultion" was blowing up on the radio, its a commercially friendly track which is relevant to the everyday relationship issue's real life people deal with. Another hit collaboration with Timbaland is "Try Again" made for "Romeo Must Die" a movie starring Jet Li and Aaliyah. "Rock The Boat" & "More Then A Woman" are to more memorable joints from her self-titled album. The "I Miss You" (Remix) is a moving and powerful track, Aaliyah sings soulfully about a lost love - Aaliyah really captured the feeling of a breakup and the longing people have on this premium joint. Disc two features bonus, soundtrack, and guest appearance/collaboration material. Timbaland & Magoo team up with Wyclef and provide a heartfelt tribute to Aaliyah on "Hold On" . "Ultimate Aaliyah" is a release for any R & B collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rating is based on the Aaliyah tracks, not the cd quality, February 17, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Ultimate Aaliyah (Audio CD)
The tracks on this cd are mostly Aaliyah's hit but contain some tributes that were on Timbaland's albums and a couple others.

Everything is great except for the cd quality.
The cds are a very cheap type (you'll know what I mean when you pick it up and compare it with another one you own. The first giveaway is that they're lighter).
Another thing is that some of the songs skip consistently. I usually have to stop my stereo, back a couple songs up, then go back to the one that skipped in order to get it to play correctly (it's not my stereo, I've tried it on several different players, some won't even play the skipping songs at all).

If you buy this cd and get one that skips, return it for a replacement (unlike me. I never got around returning it).

In short, GREAT MUSIC, GREAT SONG SELECTION BUT CRAPPY CD QUALITY (the cd company spent most their money on the cd jacket, which is done really well, it's got some great Aaliyah pictures... although I've never seen a bad Aaliyah picture!!).

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of Aaliyah, May 12, 2010

This review is from: Ultimate Aaliyah (Audio CD)
I once heard someone accurately describe Aaliyah as half Sade and half Janet Jackson. Like Sade, Liyah had an air of mystery. She was approachable yet private. Like Janet, she married her sweet tone and limited range to hard edged urban beats. Plus the girl could dance and entertain like nobody's business while pushing the envelope with every album.

Ultimate Aaliyah compiles most of her greatest hits on the first disc and Timbaland collaborations and soundtrack singles on the second. Age Ain't Nothing But A Number and Journey to the Past are omitted, but it's a small glitch. More Than A Woman shows up in a remixed form and I wish the same had been done with At Your Best (You Are Love). I love the original, but the video version has some bounce to it and not to mention it's rare. The third disc features an extended version of Aaliyah's Behind The Music and a photo gallery.

Yet again this retrospective was made available only in the UK where it suffered underpromotion and poor sales. A US release is just what we need.

I must say this is the best CD because I have been looking for a wonderful CD to remember the good old days back when I was in single digit age. The quality is wonderful, I could not ask for anything better.
