5.0 out of 5 stars A true survival guide
All of Nickie Dumke's books are excellent. She is extremely dedicated to helping others through allergy trials and brings years of experience to the task. 2.0 out of 5 stars Food Allergy Cook Book
The title of this book lead me to beleive I would be able to create meals that would be allergen free. It had lots of desserts, which I do not eat sweets, and very little in the way of meals that are wheat gluten and lactose free. The book does address rotation of foods, which I found helpful, but not worth purchasing for my needs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Many success stories to help you preservere!, December 2, 2006
This review is from: The Ultimate Food Allergy Cookbook and Survival Guide: How to Cook with Ease for Food Allergies and Recover Good Health (Paperback)
If you have food allergies and are serious about regaining your health, you must take time to read this book. It will provide the motivation and the tools (recipes, sources of foods, etc.) to be sucessful. Learning to rotate foods is not easy, but it is worth the effort. Be sure to read "A Personal Postscript" and "Three Generations of Allergies". These success stories will help you perservere in your journey.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive Survival Guide, February 6, 2007
This review is from: The Ultimate Food Allergy Cookbook and Survival Guide: How to Cook with Ease for Food Allergies and Recover Good Health (Paperback)
Wow. I just got into this book (and Easy Breadmaking by the same author) and am amazed! These are not just cookbooks. The author takes the time to explain the facts, diagnosis, and treatment options for food allergies. She also includes a comprehensive nutrition section, all written in an easy to understand and very uplifting way. I am thankful that someone has taken their time and talents to write down what we need when challenged with multiple food allergies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Help With Food Allergies Plus, January 19, 2007
This review is from: The Ultimate Food Allergy Cookbook and Survival Guide: How to Cook with Ease for Food Allergies and Recover Good Health (Paperback)
This book really helped me when my food allergies were so bad that I didn't know what to eat. It introduced me to new foods which I could eat, gave easy recipes for cooking them, and provided medical insights that helped me improve my health. I highly recommend this book for everyone with food allergies, even if they are not as severe as mine.

5.0 out of 5 stars ROTATION, ROTATION, ROTATION, June 18, 2008

This review is from: The Ultimate Food Allergy Cookbook and Survival Guide: How to Cook with Ease for Food Allergies and Recover Good Health (Paperback)
A rotation diet is overwhelming! Our child's developmental progress improves so much on a gluten free diet (The SCD diet for ASD) that our doctor finally agreed to the allergy tests, which revealed a long list of other IGg allergies in additon to the gluten and Bakers Yeast I had already suspected. Also, he was starting to register allergies to everything else he ate. This book offered so much information at a time when I felt completely overwhelmed. I had ordered about a dozen books on the topic but found this one the most useful. Even though it has lots of recipes, it was the all of the other info that helped the most. Since the author has 'been there done that' she knew exactly what kind of information you need for a rotation diet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Extremely helpful book, May 29, 2008
This review is from: The Ultimate Food Allergy Cookbook and Survival Guide: How to Cook with Ease for Food Allergies and Recover Good Health (Paperback)
My son has mulitple food allergies - wheat, oatmeal, dairy, soy, tomato, tree nuts, peanuts - the cracker and bread recipes were especially helpful. It also gave me a better understanding of how rotational diets work. I am using her diet as a guide for my son's rotational diet. I learned a great deal about the biology behind food from the cookbook as well. Some recipes I am not able to use or are simply not feasible, but the reference guide in the back is an invaluable resource to find products.

5.0 out of 5 stars beats all other allergy cookbooks, hands down, February 3, 2009

This review is from: The Ultimate Food Allergy Cookbook and Survival Guide: How to Cook with Ease for Food Allergies and Recover Good Health (Paperback)
For people with many severe allergies to foods, this is the most comprehensive, best-organized cookbook I have found. It is clearly written, well-researched and informative without resorting to hype, and the recipes clearly have been kitchen-tested. The drawbacks of some recipes are noted (e.g., some alternative grain recipes are more crumbly or dense than recipes using wheat flour). Sources for unusual foods are listed; and the internet provides a great marketpalce for finding the rest. I found it easy to adapt the basic rotation diet to fit the foods I can tolerate best and purchase locally and online.

The author has done us a great favor by turning her many trials with allergies into a treasure-trove for the rest of us in the same boat. She not only groups foods by phylogenetic families to alert to possible cross-reactivity, but also mentions the newer, emerging findings on pollen-food interactions due to non-genetic similarity of protein forms. Best of all, instead of leaving the reader feeling hopeless in the face of so many potential cross-reactions, she outlines a workable way to cope.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of resources and info, September 30, 2008
This review is from: The Ultimate Food Allergy Cookbook and Survival Guide: How to Cook with Ease for Food Allergies and Recover Good Health (Paperback)
My young daughter has food allergies, so I ordered this book specifically for help with the rotation diet. This is the only book I could even find WITH a rotation diet and it has lots of good ideas for people who suffer from food allergies. I do recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resources for Complex Food Allergies, May 21, 2009
This review is from: The Ultimate Food Allergy Cookbook and Survival Guide: How to Cook with Ease for Food Allergies and Recover Good Health (Paperback)
This book includes great information about the diagnosis and treatment of complex food allergies, as well as a wide variety of recipes for special diets. One of the features that I like best is that the recipes include a wide variety of substitution options so that you may individualize the recipe to your unique food restrictions. This book met the need I had to adapt my daughter's allergic food restrictions to her decision to become a vegetarian. After reviewing this most recent of Nickie's books, combined with her older ones, I was able to develop enough new recipe ideas to help my daughter comply with her increased diet restrictions. The new recipes added much desired variety and they tasted great. Two of the most fun surprises in this book included cranberry sauce on page 126 (which I chose to sweeten with date sugar) and kiwi sorbet on 201 (which I chose to sweeten with stevia).

4.0 out of 5 stars Allergy Elimination, February 8, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Ultimate Food Allergy Cookbook and Survival Guide: How to Cook with Ease for Food Allergies and Recover Good Health (Paperback)
Having had severe food allergies all my life, the book offered some useful tips. For example, how to make your own yogurt, to have intestine tests done, a description of the rotation diet, etc. I found the recipes not very inspiring. I was also disappointed that no reference was made to the non traditional allergy elimination technique of NAET. Although NAET is not an absolute cure either, it can eliminate some of the allergies. A good book for someone that has not studied and explored all about allergies yet.
