5.0 out of 5 stars Essentials for your teenage acting career!!
As a teenage actor, I know how hard it is to go blindly to a library or bookstore and page through hundreds of books trying to find a monologue that simply matches your age and personality. I did find some extremely clever monologues in this book. Some were good, others made me cringe (either at outdated 'cool' language or the extreme stereotypical nature). However, all of the monologues in this book are ones that have earned people awards. These monologues or monologues that people auditioning you will more than likely know. As a teenage actor, I know how hard it is to go blindly to a library or bookstore and page through hundreds of books trying to find a monologue that simply matches your age and personality. The title of Janet's book reveals exactly what is inside. The monologues not only fit teens, but even ages ranging from children to adults. Each monologue is simple and has many levels for you to display your talent. They start out with an attention getter, slope up and down throughout the monologue and end with good closing statements. This is truly the only monologue book you'll ever need to buy. Absolutely perfect for auditions! Buy this book and save yourself a lot of time and energy!

Great book Janet! We're all proud of you! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Monologues--Short, Smart, Witty and Very Commercial, September 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Ultimate Audition Book for Teens: 111 One-Minute Monologues (Young Actors Series) (Paperback)
As a playwright, I see many monologues performed. The best actors choose monologues that immediately capture the audiences attention. I've notice many actors, and especially actresses, choose lengthy monologues, or worse, ones that don't fit their age group simply because they can't find anything appropriate. If the actor is allowed to show their range--it's all the better! Janet Milstein's book gives actors a fighting chance. The monologues are easy to grasp and go somewhere. It had 3 great monologues in the first 5 pages. I bought it for my best friend who already loves it. Do yourself a favor if your an actress/actor---Buy it!

However, all of the monologues in this book are ones that have earned people awards. These monologues or monologues that people auditioning you will more than likely know. I enjoyed reading some of the monologues--there were some pretty funny ones, and some good drama (considering it's for teens). These are great to work on in a classroom or workshop, but I would not recommend using this book--or really any monologue book--when going to a professional audition.

i bought this book really hoping to find some good monologs and was very disapointed. all of the monologs are unusable for most competitions because they are not from published plays. and the monologs really have no substance. it is also very difficult to build a character with no information.

After reading just A FEW monologues, I immediately fell in love with what the book has to offer. Being a teenage myself, what these monologues are based on, ANY teenager can relate too. The reactions of the characters in the different monologues are believable, practical and hilarious when need be. Great Book! Keep it up!! Simply have to love it!!! Its a MUST read!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Useless, March 24, 2007
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Ultimate Audition Book for Teens: 111 One-Minute Monologues (Young Actors Series) (Paperback)
I often compete at middle school level speech tournaments and audition for a variety of plays, so I find it useful to keep a number of good monologue books with me. I found the monologues from The Ultimate Audition Book for Teens: 111 One-Minute Monologues (Young Actors Series) completely and utterly useless. The monologues are rather stereotypical. When I buy a monologue book, I am usually fully aware of the fact that I will only find two or three "excellent" monologues (for my purpose) and a number of "suitable" ones that I keep take note of in case a situation comes up where I might need them. In this book I didn't even find one that might halfways qualify for the "suitable" category. The monologues are empty. You can't take them anywhere. There is no worthwhile development in any of them. And they are all too short. If one is looking for good monologues, I would recomend Audition Speeches for 6-16 Year Olds, by Jean Marlow, and Great Monologues for Young Actors, which is edited by Craig Slaight and Jack Sharrar. My last recommendation would be to stay away from The Ultimate Audition Book for Teens and any other books in the series.

Though I have not yet read the whole book, I have read many of Janet Milstein's monologues. They are awesome, and you are sure to find one that suits you in her book. Her writing is real, with real situations, not fake and phony like other monologue books. Her monologues have won many awards at competitions in New York and LA. You must buy this book if you are looking for great monologues!

4.0 out of 5 stars The World Is My Stage..., February 21, 2001

Hey everyone. I'm a 14 year old girl from the middle of nowhere. I have been acting for about...all my life. From those little plays, in which we all played a tree...lol, or the now bigger productions done at workshops, conventions, and student acting schools. I've had to audition many time an to this day I fret seeing on a requirement sheet "Please Have a 1 Minute Dialouge." I literally panic! I normally have a fantastic mind to write stories and poems and songs, but to write a comdeic dialouge, No Way! I'm just fine with the dramatic or sad or anyother kind, but when it comes to making comedy, i'm just not the funniest person. I mean, I'm weird in ALOT of ways, but not weird enough to write an actullay FUNNY dialouge. That's where books lik this come in, I went to the library recently and pulled the only book they had from the shelf, and I'll give you 3 guesses what it was! I love acting, and thanks to this book, I have a better chance of persuing my dream and being alittle bit more funny when it comes to dialouges! -Katie p.s. I Highly recomend it!

Janet Milstein, the author of this book, has had a lot of experience acting, and these monologues are the hilarious and or emotional skits that will take you to great heights in your acting career. I would recommend this book to teenagers of all ages.
